Interlaced PAL dvd. Don't want to smooth, really no other way?

I don't understand interlaced PAL!

I bought a tv-show pal-DVD.
The video is interlaced.
If I want to make it 25fps progressive xvid, is there really no better solution than smooth every secon frame to one frame?

The way I think is that an interlaced pal only have 25 DIFFERENT fps. but each frame is cut in two, making it 50fps.
It should be easy to put together the right half-frames to one frame without any interlacing effects, and thus making the film a perfect 25fps progressive video again.

But this doesn't happen with the existing tools and I don't know why...

Instead it seems that every video program put together wrong half-frames, to one hole-frame, making only bad frames with alot of interlacing artifacts...

Unless I'm completely wrong, and there really is 50 completely different frames pr. sec.(If so, I guess smoothing would be the solution.)

Real interlaced PAL uses 50 different fields, no way to put them together without artifacts.
If its a TV-Show it most likely interlaced.
You can of course make a 50fps Xvid out of it if you really dislike the effects of deinterlacing.

If it is a TV show, then it propably has 50 different frames per second. The best you can do is to use Avisynth's SeparateFields command and get yourself 50 Hz half height video ad resize it on playback. Some methods to deinterlace PAL video: http://www.100fps.com/

Ok, so if there was only 25fps, interlaced to 50, I wouldn't be in trouble, or could the player make a mistake and construct a frame from two wrong fields?

I'm asking because there really shouldn't have happened so much in 1/50 sec. to cause such big differences compared to last frame.

If your film is indeed progressive, but phase-shifted (as displayed in your graphics), you can reconstruct the progressive video using Telecide (from Donald Graft's Decomb package).

Else you have the choice of keeping it interlaced or field-based, or transform it to progressive video by means of a deinterlacer (TomsMoComp, FieldDeinterlace, KernelDeint, ...).
