I thought a search would answer this-but no joy so what I'm sure sounds like a dumb question:
Since I usually have to modify the AVIs that I feed to CCE with AviSynth am I missing out on some benefit of using ecl files? I normally just register a few .avs files and then encode.

The ECL is just a project file containing the file list and the respective settings. You don't have to save the ECL file, but it is recommened because if you have to cancel/exit CCE, you can simply load in the ECL and don't have to adjust all the settings again.
