hi, I searched the board, but because of lack of good english I didnt find an answer or maybe there was none :D

Ok, im using GKnot 28.7, the Xvid which comes with Gknot, 2 audio streams, one subtitle.

Problem:
I went everytime for a filesize of 610mb, but got ~440.
Sound is cool, subs are cool, but the video itself is not very good :)

What can I do?

Search for "undersized" files on the forum. You can do a "compressability check" before encoding to prevent undersized files. Check the guides and the forum. Has been discussed in plenty.

It is strange though, that the quality is not at a peak. Try using Lanczos (sharp) resize and make sure you didn't make the resolution too low.

hmm, works fine now, used bigger resolution, other resize filter, its great now BUT:

the audio stops after a few seconds, if i jump in the movie i will have sound again, but it stops a few secs again.

Whats the Problem, im using 2 * ac3 and AC3Filter which come along with GKnot

Question...is my problem the same as this?

I'm aiming for 2 Cd's worth from a DVD, in Xvid, so 1.4 G total file size, but am getting a 300mb file each time, which won't open/play in anything. I'm thinking it might be a different problem with GKnot, since it's SO undersized and the output files aren't working right.

Will wait a couple of days for feedback here, and then maybe post it as a seperate thread. Haven't found anything in my forum searches that helps yet...am following the Gknot simple Xvid tutorial from this site, setting everything up the way it says to.

All help, comments, suggestions appreciated.

Dave.

more info would be nice...

u can use graphedit or gspot to inspect your files...
can u open avs from gknot in vdubmod...
xvid version...

about sound problems... dont know - try demux -> play ac3 alone...

Yes, i can open the file in Vdubmod, but i see nothing in the main window (it was like that in the final G Knot operation as well...no video visible). Don't have GSpot...will get that this evening and try the file out in it.

post avs...
try another ver of vdubmod (1.5.4.x)
open avs in some player...

also when encoding u can set vdubmod to preview input or/and output...

what codecs do you have... try to see file information from file menu after opening file in vdubmod...

Which player do you use? I've a somewhat related problem using BSPlayer. I don't have sound when the movie starts, but if I jump once in the movie, the sound works ok.

But perhaps it's AC3Filter (http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/) related. If you don't have the newest version, try to use that one.

works fine now, hav 2 ac3filter in settings of Media player 6, dunno why, if i set both to spdif it works fine.

But i use XVID, normally GKnot should fill in the bitrate in Codec, but it shouldnt, i have to do it manually, why?

I know why it works! If you connect your soundcard with a digital output to your AC3 receiver, then you should choose SPDIF :D

As for your second question. In GKnot, you want to select 'Calculate Average Bitrate' and not 'Calculate Filesize'. Pay attention ;)

I did that already, but it didnt put it into. Do i have to set same bitrate for both passes?

Ok, i realized the Problem:

If i play the file without Vobsub beeing started everything works fine, but if i start Vobsub to have the subs the sound will stop after a few moments. Help? :)
