Very Oversized result :(

My goal was 4464 Mb and what Roba gave is a 4836 Mb

About 372 Mb plus. It seems like he didn't count the audio file but it's there.

Here goes my logs

@werky, seems OK to me. The Q step was very high, and Q is an integer. This produces errors in the estimation which may not be overcome. However, the second pass corrected this, didn't it?

Thankx for your reply R6d2

the second pass corrected this, didn't it?

This is the problem, from my point of view.

Roba didn't produce any second pass. He made the first vaf file and then the 1 vbr pass. Like you see is saying 100% on the target, the problem is that this 100% are oversized :(

So i have now a Video_TS folder with 4836 MB to write.

I have to redo everything again but i'm afraid to wait 8 hours and get an equal result in the end :(

let me know, what can i try to change this.

You consider a Q of 16, very high?

Like you see is saying 100% on the target, the problem is that this 100% are oversized :(But the size produced by D2Sroba was 4347-MB video. Remember size is measured in MB and 1-MB = 2^20 bytes. Audio was 385-MB, so for a total of 4732-MB, still higher than the size you entered.

I don't do DVDs so I'm not familiar with the sizes you have to use, but I guess you may have put a size too big as target.

On the other topic, Q=16 is a very good value, what I meant was that the Q step, i.e., the variation in size produced by 1 Q unit, is too big. But don't worry. I hope some DVD burning users will suggest a proper size.

I guess you may have put a size too big as target.

Plz take a look at my Roba log:

------------------------
Settings:
- Output type : DVD
- CD size : 4464
------------------------
...

Result: 4347 MB video + 385 MB Audio + 20 Mb Subs = 4752 Mb

The maximum you can get on DVD-R is 4489 Mb and 4484 on DVD+R.

So if Roba had worked fine i would get Video + Audio = 4464 Mb.
And then plus 20 Mb of subtitles with a final 4484 Mb.

I made more than 10 dvds with this method and everyone came undersized by less than 1%.

My problem is that i don't understand why Roba is pointing 100% on the target, when the target is not 100%. Well it is 100% on video only target but not on Video+Audio.

I'm assuming that the value we put in Roba is for Video+Audio, correct?

Look at this, plz

- Sizing pass result: 100% on target (4558309192 / 4558589980)

The problem is that ROBA has miscalculated this 4558589980 value. This equals 4347 Mb.

So if i put a max of 4464. We'll be left with 117 Mb for the audio, this is crazy isn't it?

Roba shows

- D2S audio brate : (448 + 0) kbps
Well, 448kps * 01:59:55 = 393 Mb

So 4464 Mb - 393 Mb = 4071 Mb

The target for ROBA must have been 4268752896 and not 4558589980.

What happened here? Is this normal? Am i doing anything wrong?

Hi,

I have had this before with one disc. Can you try running DVD2SVCD without D2SRoBa. Check if DVD2SVCD estimates the required size correctly.

You don't have to do the whole encode just to the point where PureMPEGStream: 4563610553.83 is displayed in the log.

If you still get the same excessively large number, then it is DVD2SVCD that is at fault. I believe D2SRoBa uses DVD2SVCD's size calculations/predictions. I have had this before, and my solution was to run DVD2SVCD with a maximum average bitrate of what you think will fit (a calculator comes in handy here - and leave yourself a safety margin). Everything will be ok then.

Regards,
Bob

@bobwillis: Well it seems that you're right, thankx

I was suspecting also of this movie. There must be anything strange with this mpeg stream or the audio stream, don't know what could it be.

I had to put 4100 Mb in Roba to end with a 4475 Mb.

The movie was Wild at Heart, if anyone needs to make his own backup be aware.

I am experiencing the same problem as werky did. The movie I am backing up is Memento (DTS version). I got a movie over 5 gigs.

Two audio streams (DD5.1 and DTS 5.1) and one sub stream are added. Looking at the numbers in the D2SRoBa log it goes wrong in a very early stage of the whole process. I am sorry to say I already got rid of the log.

At some point D2SRoBa logs that in an ideal situation the video size has to be 3,6 GB, but the two audio streams take up 1,6 GB. That's over 5 GB all together. Appearantly calculating the max video size goes wrong at some point.

I suppose manually setting a max average bitrate will fix the problem, but it's still weird. Memento is the first movie it goes wrong with so far. I have done about 10 encodes or something.
