Hi !
Im pretty unexpirience in this things. I bought short time ago a dvd Burner and started to copy some of my movies. I always used DVD Shrink because most people use these tool. I think it is a good tool, it is fast and the quality is pretty good.
But I didnīt like the fact that i was only able to make "still pictures" for the extras i didnīt want to keep. They get pretty small in still pictures, but it would be better if they could be deleted completely.
So now iīve tried Clone DVD. With this programm, i could choose which titles and so which extras i wanted to keep and which not. And for the same movie, Clone DVD took 21 Minutes, shrink 36 minutes. The quality was the same at the end.
So, my question is, why is everyone so fasinated about Shrink ? In my opinion, Clone DVD is equal or even better than Shrink, because it has more options, it is faster and the quality is pretty good. As i said Im not very expireinced using this programs, but does anyone also think that Clone DVD is better. And if you think it is worser than Shrunk, than why ? I hope you can give me some infos so i can learn something new :-) I really donīt know which program I should use.
Bye, Xeixe

I have no opinion on CloneDVD, never having used it.
Based on the statements in the Elby Clone dvd 2 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71263) thread in the one-click forum, it looks like people generally like the new version of CloneDVD.
It probably just looks like Shrink is favored because it's talked about more - and that's probably because it's better than the old version of CloneDVD, so it's gained greater penetration to date. Since more people have been using it, it gets talked about more.
Also, the fact that Shrink is free will probably ensure that it stays one of the most widely used, and therefore one of the most widely talked about.
If you like CloneDVD and it works for you, by all means use it.

In order to cut all extras from a DVD using DVD Shrink, simply click the Re-Author button at the top of the control bar. Select only the titles that you want (the main movie is almost always the largest file) and for that data stream choose only the subtitles and sound strams that you need, then set the compression level to the highest setting where the files will fit on the blank DVD. hit the backup button at the top and voila! DVD shrink will do its thing and get you a file with just the things you need, none of the things you don't want, with the least compression possible (depending on the compression level, a mostly full DVD can take up to forty minutes to encode). note that compressing anything over 15 percent with DVD shrink results in noticibly degraded quality if you have a large TV. If the main movie won't fit on a blank DVD with less than 20% compression it may be a better idea to use DVD fab to split it (if you are a newbie) or if you have the skills and the program resourses, the big three method (check the guides) is probably the best method to get a disc that will play on your standalone. If the compression level is in fact small I usually use DVD Shrink and bypass the more labor intensive method of the big three, assuming that i don't want the extras, which I usually couldn't care less about. I haven't used DVD clone because I don't like to pay for a piece of software if I can get a different piece for free that does the same thing. However, always donate a little something to the hardworking folk that keep bringing us ever improving software) Hope this helps, good luck and happy times.

Main advantage of Shrink is that it delivers equall quality free of charge. An asset clone dvd lucks at the moment.

Xeixe,
If you don't like the fact that DVDShrink make "still pictures", then I suggest you use Nero Recode. I think DVDShrink's author is the same one that wrote Recode. In Recode, you can eliminate the extras you don't want, just like CloneDVD.
As for quality, if you want to keep everything, and if the compression is high (i.e. less than 70%), and IMHO, Shrink did better than CloneDVD. If you don't need a lot of compression (i.e. more than 80%), I think the quality are pretty the same for both product.
BTW, you can combine DVDStripper with DVDShrink. This way you have an optimum way to strip exactly what you want, even FBI logo (i.e. CloneDVD usually doesn't let you do that). After you strip with DVDStripper, then just use DVDShrink to shrink it to the required 4.37GB. One warning though. This combination need lots of disk space, because of DVDStripper.

I think I should have mentioned that i was refering to the new Clone DVD Version called Clone DVD 2. Elby got out a sneak preview of this new version and it is much better than the older Clone DVD versions.
In my opinion, this new version is better than Shrink, becuase it is able to offer the same quality as shrink, but it is faster (with my AMD 2,6, Shrinks needs about 35 Minutes for a movie, Clone DVD 2 only 18 minutes), and you can choose exactly the extras you wanna keep.
I think everyone should try the sneak preview version of Clone DVD 2 and post their opinions here, of course only if you want, but I would, really.
