When I rip a dvd on my hard-drive with dvd-decrpyter, I then use dvd shrink to compress it to dvd-r size. When I press the backup button though, it never has an option to burn it to a dvd-r. I have nero and all it has as an option is "hard disk folder" How would I get dvd shrink to burn it onto a dvd-r? Thanks

You can't make DVD Shrink burn the files to blank media. That's what Nero (among others) does.

So I just use dvd shrink to make another directory with the movie compressed then use a dvd burning program to use those files ?

The version of DVD Shrink I use is 3.0 Beta 5. The process I go through is to decrypt and save to the hard drive, reauthoring if necessary to make the file size under 4.7GB, then burning in Nero. If DVD Shrink incorporated burning in a later version, then I apologise for the misinformation.:)

My version of dvd shrink has burning on. That is what I was confused about. It has a little text field that says :

Burn with nero to the following device:

It will only let me choose hard disk folder, I can't enter a drive letter or anything else...

@Taxious

DVD Shrink *should* offer you a choice via a drop-down menu as to where you'd like to burn your files. Even if you can enable Nero for burning, though, you'll still need a file on your hard drive for the processed files to ge into.

Check to see if there's a little "down" arrow where it offers to burn the files to your hard drive. If it doesn't -- and your operating system does, indeed, recognise your burner -- you might try downloading the most current version, uninstalling the version you're running now, and reinstalling DVD Shrink using the most recent file. It's possible that programs can become corrupted during download... maybe that's all that happened the first time.

Hope your answer lies somewhere above!
Good luck!

I have tried this, when I point to my e: drive (the dvd/cd rw drive) it just says:

Dvd shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue
Failed to create folder
The parameter is incorrect

You mentioned you selected "hard disk folder" but why are you pointing to your DVD drive? You need to point to a folder on your "hard drive" if you are going to use the "hard disk folder" option.

I told you that the only option that it has under the " burn with nero" field is hard disk folder. There is no way to change it and no more options on the arrow-down menu...

I don't want to put it on my hard drive, I want to put it on a dvd-r!

Hmmm...your burner isn't being detected for a target device. If you click on "Open disc", does your burner get detected?

BTW, what version are you using now?

Well it looks like you need to upgrade your Nero... you don't mention what version of nero you are using?

I can't find a version number, all it says is nero burning rom. I think that might be the problem though because when exploring through it, I can find nothing about burning dvds...

At the risk of being called "Captain Obvious" - are you 100% sure you have a DVD burner installed in your computer and not a drive that can just READ DVD's and BURN CD's. That may be why Nero (and DVDShink) do not offer you the option to burn to blank DVD.

Also - to check your version of NERO just click HELP --> ABOUT NERO.

Cheers Tim...

Yes... I'm sure I have a dvd-r/rw drive. I uninstalled nero because it was causin problems working with dvdnow. (which sucks really bad also, but I don't have another program) <sigh>

Could be a problem with the drive, or how Windows sees (or doesn't see) the drive. Could be maybe the drivers got screwed up by another program.

Have you tried going into Windows DEVICE MANAGER and "uninstalling" or "removing" the drive from the list and then reboot your computer and windows should detect it and install it again.

A long shot but it's worth a try.

Cheers...

Tried that too, didn't work. One time when I installed nero, both my cd-rom drives wern't reading or even there when I clicked my computer. They were in bios and when I called tech support he had me delete the upper/lower in the registry editor. It made the drives appear, and work... could that have done something with nero?

Somehow the "Burn with Nero" option doesn't work for me neither. I have DVDShrink 3.1.4 and Nero 6.3.0.0 but all I get from DVDShrink when I chose the "burn with Nero" option is some error message.

It doesn't bother me much, though - that's why I haven't tried to make it work much more...
