I have downloaded the Halo 2 E3 video, and I want to demux the 5.1 audio from the video and convert it to AC3. Then take the video and recompress it with XviD. How do I do this?

Thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of video-encoding. Start your journey here (http://www.doom9.org/wmvconversion.htm). Please come back if a problem arises that is not covered by the guide.
Perhaps there are other users with experience in WMV-conversion?

Edit: Forgive the unneccessary editing, time to go to bed. :o

Hmm, I never noticed that guide, though it's kind of roundabout. Same thing can be done with just graphedit or using the traditional avisynth + vdub transcoding method.

Graphedit would be a nice clean way to do the audio and video transcoding in one step, as long as you don't want any special filtering in between. Just connect the video and audio decoder output pins into the vfw or directshow xvid and ac3 encoders, mux with whatever you want (avi muxer, mkv, ogg), plug it into the filewriter, and hit play.
Fun.

I've tried to convert the wmv to avi but, it seems to stop at 3 seconds in the conversion. How long does this take. Also what about the 5.1 audio on the wmv? Will that still me there in the avi with all of its surround sound glory?
