Hey,
Was on this board ages ago, now forgor all the DivX stuff. I want to encode best quality DivX from DVD. Is it still quant=2 and all advanced features of DivX Pro turned off?
Cheers

Hi-
If you want to try a real easy program, that will give you as good of a quality as you want (but without regard to filesize), then you might try a Quality Mode encoding in AutoGK (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64266). And it'll also do a regular 2-pass if you prefer to make them for CDs.

Hey, thanks for the reply :)
What is the difference between Quant=1 and Quant=2? Is there noticeable diff?
And also does the Windows Media Player (or whatever player in XP) have a problem with DivX's larger than 2GB?

AutoGK 67% quality is Quant 3 and works for me.

so what % is quant 2?
I've been using 80% with 1 pass quality mode in autogk. Looks good, I can only notice minor distortion around text or distant objects in sceens with a big view distance. 100% is really clear but file sizes are huge. I'd be lucky to fit 2 divx movies on 1 dvd using 100%.
I used to use the regular GK. Auto GK is easier and faster with 1 pass quality rather then 2 pass. Plus with autogk I can setup 2 or more rips and have them all done when I wake up in the morning :D
I suggest you try out autogk or if you wan't more control then try out the regular gk.

On some tests I've done, 67% quality saves about 31% disc space.

You know, I don't have a DVD burner, but if I had one, I'd encode all my DivX movies with 1-pass, 67% quality or so, and make two or three of them fit in 1 DVD, even if I'd lose some space. 2 pass takes too long.
