PowrDVD and subtitles, mini-itx

I use PowerDVD 5 for DVDs. I have a mini-itx M10000 so to go with the PowerDVD codecs is a must.

Spec:
Mini-Itx M100000 Nemiaha
256 Mb ram
Teac slimdrive DVD 8x, 16x CD
WIN XP SP1
PowerDVD 5
AnyDVD 3.5.2.1 (i have tried to uninstall AnyDVD without luck so its not that program that makes problem nr 2)


I have two problems with subtitles and PowerDVD.

1)
If i watch a movie and dont want subtitles there's no way to shut it off, if i go into the menu and select subtitle OFF the freaking subtitle is still there and if i press the subtitle button on the remote (simulate keyboard button 'U') i can only scroll through the diffrent subs there is no option for off.

2)
When a subtitle is being displayed the picture freezes for a microsecond, its hardly noticeable, infact my fiancé cant even see it. But i'm very sensitive to such things so i cant barly see a DVD on the mini-itx.

If i rip the exakt same movie to Xvid and keep the subtitles in the vobsub format and play them using vobsub 2.23 the movie does not freeze.

I'm not sure this will necessarily help, but did you try using Media Player Classic instead? I know you said that you need to use PowerDVD codecs, Media Player Classic can use them, so long as you turn off the in-built mpeg2 codecs. I found mpc to be better at handling subtitles and other user-interface stuff when compared with powerdvd, although there are sometimes issues with menu areas and aspect ratios. But it's worth a shot, you should definitely try it out and see if it solves the problem.

(sorry for the late reply) - media player classic will use any dvd codecs installed on the pc, so assumming that you have no other dvd player installed, it will use the powerdvd codecs (to double check, right click a dvd playing back in mpc and look at which filters are being used, you should see cyberlink or powerdvd). But recently gabest made some of his own dvd playback filters, you need to make sure that they are disabled in the options before playing back (I'm not sure if they are on by default).
