View Full Version : All transcoded MPEG garbled?

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of an issue.... I've tried the great majority of the available programs to backup my movies, but as of late regardless of what software I use, whenever I transcode my MPEG streams, they all come out garbled (blocks, green areas, the works). Has anyone had this happen before? I'm wondering if I'm just going to have to reinstall Windows or something... like I said, I've tried just about all backup solutions I could get my hands on, and they all give me garbled output... and they won't play on the regular set-top DVD player either... the writer burns other discs without a problem... so it's not the burner. And I checked the output files from the various programs and opened them in my DVD viewing app, and the ouput (even before writing) is already garbled... anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I'm about ready to wipe the whole machine and get a fresh start...

Thanks..

- W

Try defragmenting your HD first :)

Holy crap.... even if this won't solve the problem, I guess I still should defrag... I just checked and the drive I use to back up my DVD files to has 31% total fragmentation and 62% file fragmentation... man... and I've only had this drive for a few months.. it's a WD 200G drive with the 8MB buffer which I bought in December of last year...
This might take a while though.. the drive is about 70% full currently.

Thanks for the tip - I'll post and let you know what happens :)

Cheers..
