xvid jerky playback problem fixed!

hi,

i had serveral problems with vobsub 2.23 in the last time, so i played with some options and one of them solved apparently the xvid jerky playback problem!

vobsub -> DirectVobSub Configure -> Genereal -> Section: Loading

set to:

-> Always Load

---

sysKin's new patch (http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~syskin/xvid.ax_compat.zip ) based on an older directshow build solved this problem on my win me system too. (without this directvobsub setting)

This is quite important - if it's true, it's just the right time to add this patch to dshow's configuration.

hey guys, noticed this thread so i gave your patch a try syskin and on my win98 (ahtlon 1200) system it didnt help me in the slightest.

hi,

the joke is, that my video has nothing to do with vobsub: just a plain xvid stream and vbr mp3 in a avi-container. i had tryed matroska with the same result too.

please try to use the following vobsub configuration or uninstall vobsub.

DirectVobSub Configure:

Genereal -> Loading: Always Load
Main -> VobSub Settings -> Read .sub into memory: disabled
Main -> VobSub Settings -> Polygonize: disabled
Misc -> Pre-buffer subpictures: disabled


make sure, that you have replaced the original xvid.ax in your windows\system directory with the (renamed to xvid.ax) one from sysKin's patch.

heini011: it could be the vbr audio thats making a fuss
i had an avi yesterday with a vbr audio stream which was dropping every 2nd frame or something like that
then i seperated the audio from the avi and muxed them together in a mkv file and the problem was solved... yet lots of other avi files with vbr audio work fine...
i have no idea what so ever what the problem could be, but i just know that this solution solved my problem

i had serveral tests done.

video: 720x480 pixel, encoded with rc 2.
(as i described before, encoding options are not relevant, only gmc AND qpel together makes a different.)
audio: none.
container: avi

player: windows media player 6.4


pc1: amd athlon xp 1900 mhz, ati radeon 9100, win me

playback is jerky with rc2, rc1.

playback is ok, if
- xvid 1.0 beta 3 is used
- syskins xvid.ax patch is used
- directvobsub is active
- directvobsub is active and syskins patch is used


pc2: intel pentium 3 866 mhz, ati radeon 7200, win 98 se

playback is jerky with rc2, but ok if syskins patch is used!



pc3: intel pentium 4 1.5 GHz, nvidia geforce2 mx, win 2k

playback is jerky with rc2, but ok with syskins patch!

I had an xvid file that went jerky once I tried to compress it with divx 5.0.5. I did what Heini suggested and that seemed to fix the file, so thanks heini
