View Full Version : SVCD 2 big for 700MB Disk

I let AVI2SVCD encode my movie and split in in half. Well, instead of splitting it into 3, it split one half at 734MB and one at 731MB. I have tried everything I can to get it onto a CD, and it just won't work. My CD writer does support overburning, and I tried that, but Nero and all the other programs keep saying that the file is too big to fit onto the CD. I have that Daemon tool, and tried to copy it from that, but it still said it is too big. I am stumped. It took 14 hours for me to encode this movie, and I am not about to do it all over again. I would even settle for cutting some time off the end of the movie if I have to. Suggestions?

chill. everything is under control ;) your work is not lost at all.
actually, you could even have bigger files and still put them as an svcd on a normal 700M cd without overburning.
the trick is that svcd (and vcd) (nearly) don't have error correction on the cd.
a 700M cd actually has about 800M capacity, but 100M of them are used to correct errors from scratches, etc. it's neccessary with normal computer files (executables, etc) that the fidelity of the files on the cd is maximized.
on video (or audio cd), however, you won't loose much if u have a scratch. with audio cd you'll here a 'click' and it will continue to play. svcd will have a similar effect.
so all u need to do is burn the file in 'svcd mode' (the professional term is mode 2 form 2). to do that, open nero, choose the svcd wizard, drag your file, and burn. you will see that u still have some room left on the cd.
good luck ;)

Thanx for the reply. I tried it on nero, and it said it wasnt in SVCD format. I have no clue why... Is there any way of testing to see if Nero is really right or if it is in SVCD format?

I can't tell you if your encode is SVCD compliant without looking at you log.

Having had this problem a few times, I learned 2 tricks to make it work.
The first, is run it through VCDGear. Sometimes that will take out enough padding to get it to fit.
If that doesn't work, just demux and remux in tmpgenc. Usually cuts about 4 meg off the filesize.

Normally you would end up with a .bin and a .cue file. With Nero you simply use File->Burn Image and point it at the .cue file.
