I know that both of these programs are made by the same author and after reading the recode2 guide it seems as if recode2 has a few more features. I was wondering if recode2 is in general better than dvdshrink because of the extra features. Also, you can make recode2 do 2 passes of encoding is this the same as deep analysis of the dvd on dvdshrink. Thanks in adavce

I haven't noticed any difference in quality between the two programs. I normally use Recode 2 when I want to replace a title with a custom image, and DVD Shrink in all other cases.
As for Recode's 2 pass encoding, yes, it has a deep analysis option just like DVD Shrink. It also has the option to do 2 passes when encoding to MPEG-4 (Nero Digital) I believe, but that's really a separate feature.
Unless you need the ability to replace titles with a custom image or color, then DVD Shrink offers everything Recode 2 does as far as DVD transcoding/copying. If you want the Nero Digital/MPEG-4 functionality or the replacing titles with custom image/color features, then Recode 2 is what you'd need to go with.
