View Full Version : Audio Not Synched to Video on Disk 2 of 2

Milehigh
22nd February 2004, 18:31
Greetings,

Regretfully, I have searched but cannot find this issue addressed in the forums ...

For the second time, I have created an SVCD copy in which the audio on disk 2 of 2 is trailing the video by about 14 seconds, and may also get progressively more out of synch as the disk plays. Using the chapter advance will take you to places where the audio has nothing at all to do with the video.

Oddly, in both cases, the first disk is perfectly fine. Audio is in synch, and stays in synch through chapter advances.

Interestingly, this has happened only on two fairly recent Disney DVDs - Toy Story 2 and Kiki's Delivery Service. I thought I might have a software glitch or had accidentally reset some settings, but other dvd2svcd copies are still coming out fine. This strange problem comes after over a dozen successful operations, making me think perhaps Disney is using some new anti-copying process that is causing the problem?

Following is the log from the recent Kiki attempt. Does anyone see anything peculiar?

Thanks,

Milehigh

Firstly if you use win/powerDVD to play the disc on your PC does this have any effect on audio sync or is the problem only on your standalone player?

If it is only on the standalone, try reconverting without the title picture. It's a long time ago but I remember someone once saying certain DVD's showed this problem and re-encoding without the title pic fixed it.

I can't remember anyone actually working out why, nor the problem cropping up since, but I guess it's worth a go.

Thanks for the reply, Nick. The audio is out of synch no matter what player is used - actually, the audio is out of synch as far back as the created muxed mpg. I've pondered trying to resynch the muxed mpg using a video editor, but that's getting a little beyond my abilities.

I'll try your suggestion about dropping the title frame, although note title and change cd frames were only used on the first CD of the pair.

I'm currently trying something else as well - restarting dvd2svcd, going back to the IFO, and doing a "Convert Only" to create only 1 CD, Frameselecting the starting and ending frame points of the previous CD #2, and putting on no title or end frame. Since I always seem to get a working CD #1, I'm trying to "fool" dvd2svcd into creating a working "CD #1" which actually contains the second half of the DVD. Whatever works, eh?

I'll report the results in case anyone else needs a solution to this problem.

Best wishes,

Milehigh

I notice the bbMPEG movie offset is 0, that's a candidate for audio sync problems too.

It's meant to be 2, or at least greater than 0?

Hi Milehigh

Please check the files
Encoded_audio_1_FS1.log & Encoded_audio_1_FS2.log

Just to see if there were some ac3 errors. BeSweet skips the uncompleted frames (aprox. 32 msec each one) and the result is that audio/video synch is going worse during playback.

Thanks everyone for your responses - I'll check the items mentioned. really appreciate all the input - very grateful to find help on a Sunday.

Meanwhile, my little trick worked - I got a fully functioning Disk 2 by telling dvd2svcd to make one disk only, using the frameselection points for the second half of the DVD. Just a temporary workaround - may be useful technique for others with a similar problem.

Now on to actually solve the problem. I think I'll rerun the entire job with the bbMPEG movie offset changed to 2 as ralphthedog suggests and see what happens.

Best wishes, all.

Wow - really feeling stupid now. Went to change Movie offset ... On dvd2svcd's bbMPEG menu - I never noticed the ">" symbol in the suggestion:
(>0 is recommended. It can solve desynch on dvd players.)
That's why I set it to "0" last summer!

D'OH!

Thanks again to ralphthedog who steered me to the bbMPEG issue ... I never would have noticed my mistake.

No problems........just keep asking questions I know the answer to!:D

Okay. Having gotten an out-of-synch Disk 2 from Toy Story 2, I went back and tried the same "trick" - told dvd2svcd to make 1 CD from the second half of the original DVD. This time, the trick did not work, as it did with Kiki's Delivery Service. The resulting SVCD has the audio out of synch with the video as before. Already changed the bbMPEG Movie offset seconds to 2. No idea what's causing this. No apparent errors in the Encoded_audio log. Here's the main log in case anyone can spot anything ...

Don't think my program is buggy or corrupted 'cause I just did a perfect SVCD from another source a few days ago.

Thanks,
Milehigh
