Yo!
What software can be used to chceck if the file is encoded using QPel or GMC functions. I would like to know why some files are not played by my 4tune MP-101 sigma based player.

There is a small program called Avicheck, I even think that it is made by Sigma!
I can’t remember where I downloaded it but if you Google it you should be able to find it.

Or, with ffdshow, activate the OSD from the configuration. Then switch on "Frame Type".

Alternative way to check for GMC:
Open your file with DRFAnalyzer and check the report.
In the table with frames used it will say something like :
I-frames:
P-frames:
B-frames:
S-frames:
etc etc.
The S-frames are GMC frames.

The new gSpot 2.5 beta will be able to do this when it comes out.

http://gspot.headbands.com/ I have to say it looks very nice indeed.
I like the idea of the preview window. And what it's proposing to offer...
All great stuff!
Cheers
