Here's (http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm) a good place to start.

hi,
it's confusing in the beginning isn't it? well honestly i think you have gotten yourself a pretty big job for the start. in my eyes you should first make yourself familiar with the general dvdstructure, and then try converting single files into a dvd compatible filessystem. afterwards you can start mixing clips from several different sources/codecs etc.

if you can't await that, my hint would be to convert everything to huffyuv first and then process those files further to mpeg2!!

just my 2 cents though

PS: would be great if you could find a little more descriptive title for your thread. you can still change it by hitting the 'edit' buttion below your post! thanks!

Hmm? why huffyuv and mpeg 2. A yv12 lossless codec like vble is simple to use (infact there are no options at all, you just select it) and with a quick glance at the xvid options explained guide you can at least figure out the 1 pass / 2 pass option (i.e. 2 pass - 1st pass & 2 pass - int), or even perhaps divx 5. I'd suggest looking on doom9 for beginner guides for vdub, xvid and or divx5.
