colors changing after convertion

I wondered if anyone could help me on a specific problem:
I've been using DVD2SVCD for a long time to encode AVI file to SVCD, using CCE 2.5.I'm plannig get a DVD burner so I started trying to encode my DV home movies (interlaced) to DVD (authoring with TMPG DVD AUTHOR).The problem was the outcoming mpg2 file "lost" some of the colors of the original file,and it looks more "pale" than the original.I tried the "no color convertion" and the "convert to YUV2",and there was no change.I also rtied both "upper field first" and "bottom field first" and there was no difference.Can anyone point out to me generally where the problem lies (or recommend a good guide for such an encoding?)Maybe if I play it on TV it would look better than on the computer screen?

May be it has to do with the different PC/TV color range? I mean that 255/235 thing?

The adjustment depends on the encoder. Which one are you using?

Anyway, there is a difference between the PC colorspace and the video colorspace, which affect the luminance levels. I'm not sure, but that might have to do with it. I've done little DV myself and don't know which colorspace it uses, but I'm sure on the DV forum they can provide more input.

It you want to give it a try anyway, go to video settings and check what is the setting for luminance level. On CCE 2.67 it is under "Advanced|Video".
