View Full Version : Running out of memory when ripping from ISO

As we all know around here, an ISO from a DVD is around 4.5 gig, far to much to fit in the main memory. But that gives a problem when I want to rip de DVD from this (mounted) ISO, because for some reason windows only fills the memory with that ISO, but never clears those parts of the file which are not used anymore. In effect, after 256 MB of the ISO is loaded this PC just doesn't do anything anymore, for nothing can reach the memory anymore. (my own PC has 768 MB but the size doesn't make any difference)
Anyone knows a way in which this problem doesn't occur?
I already thought of using Alcohol 120% to mount instead of CloneCD, but so far I couldn't try and it will take some time before I am able to do it.

I really can't understand what u r trying to achieve. Pls provide more feedback.
Nevertheless a dvd iso image can vary from a few mbs to 9gbs the most.

I Mount a DVD ISO (4,33 GB) with Virtual CloneCD, then I try to rip its contents.
It doesn't really matter what kind of rip, it all gives the same problem. with ripping I mean either extract the VOB's, convert it to AVI or convert it to (S)(K)VCD (although I didn't try the last option, I assume it will give the same problem). In the end I like to have an AVI but right no I'm only concerned about the problem I discribed above.
The rip-program's I already tried are SmartRipper, IFOEdit and Max DVD to AVI, but I don't think the rip-program makes any difference since they all suffer the same problems.
I hope I made myself more clear now. If not I'll try to make myself even more clear.

For start lets change the virtualCD to the Deamon Tools. Try to mount the iso with deamon tools and see what happens.
