The title says it all.

Since I've already read "AVI is dead" here, but I have no full OGM, MKV or MP4 palyback support, I can easily say "OGM/MKV/MP4 are not alive yet either".

Going to the "Guides" section of doom9, one will see mostly Guides about howto create AVIs.

Going to the "Software" section, one will see no MKV support packs, which would contain all needed software for MKV playback. Same for the other containers.

I think if AVI is obsolet,e then there needs to be some 1-2-3 step like guides to the other container formats very soon.

You can't tell a newbie to not use AVI anymore and at the same time expect him to search and gather all the appropiate software himself.

Did you check the Stickies at the top of the New A/V Formats-Containers Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=74)?

hey buddy.... i'm not sure how long you've been doing this stuff but its not hard to get support.... and M$ wouldn't support an opensource container if their money depended upon it..... http://packs.matroska.org .... just download and install the full pack... then "ta da"... you got it....
