i'm trying to backup an anime series and cut out the credits and recap stuff. i cut out the credits with vobedit no problem, then created new IFO's and BUP's from the altered VTS_01_1 thru 5, as well as the original VTS_01_0.VOB and VIDEO_TS.VOB using IFOedit. again no problem. when i get VTS sectors i get warnings to delete VIDEO_TS.VOB and VTS_01_0.VOB. i ignored this because a guide i got from doom9 says these files are necessary, and it still plays on ifoedit and powerdvd. then i used dvdshrink to compress it and burn using NERO. everything seems to be fine until the process is finished, Nero says the disk wasn't created successfully, and it won't play in anything. any idea what i did wrong? thanks

could you be more specific about the point where ifoedit tells you to delete these two files? I am very curious about it.

"Attention: A Menu-VOB file was found, but there are no Menu-tables in this IFO file! Though you will have big problems on burning this directory, or playing back the DVD-R! You better delete though the following menu file and redo a 'Get VTS Sectors'!"
C:\BERSERK1-4\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.VOB
and it says the same thing for VTS_01_1.VOB. the project only has one titleset. will it work on a standalone without these files? the guide for keeping only the widescreen version said these files were necessary. i'm sure there is a simple answer, but it is eluding me. i appreciate your help. cheers!

Indeed these files r necessary for smooth playback. I wonder why this is happening.
Have u followed the guide to the letter. Can u describe the steps u r taking?

i'm kind of bouncing between a few guides, as there isn't one for this exact process. i ripped with dvd decrypter, the dvd only has one titleset. i demuxed each vob into cellIDs using vobedit. i then deleted the extraneous material and joined the remaining cellIDs using vob edit. these new vobs were placed in a folder with the original VTS_01_0.VOB and VIDEO_TS.VOB. i then created IFOs using IFOedit. i didn't mess with the audio information because in a previous attempt at this process i stripped the vobs down to no subtitles and one audio track, so i figured it didn't matter. could that be it? in the aforementioned previous attempt i did try to change the audio information to match the original ifo's, but the line i was to change was unavailable for editing. anyway, after i created the IFOs i clicked get VTS Sectors, and i got the above message. i seem to get that message almost every time i use ifo edit. could there be a problem with the program or my computer? many thanks.

When I use DVD shrink to cut out credits I just use DVD Shrink. It as a tool that allows me to set the end and start points of the film.
I know this isn't exactly what you are asking, but maybe it might help if you choose to just use DVD Shrink.

When u told ifoedit to create new ifos u gave up the option of having menus in the same time. Just keep the new stripped files and the ones that ifoedit make, perform a Get VTS Sectors and burn. No menus but a working copy instead.
If u want to keep the menus, u mustn't interrupt the original structure and in this area there r alot to consider.

no real need for menus. will try the dvd shrink method instead. many thanks to both of ye. by the way, does anyone know if these programs (ifoedit, vobedit, dvdshrink, imgtool, dvd decrypter,) or anything comparable will work on linux? windows xp is falling to pieces on my computer and i'm changing OS. not to change the subject or anything.

then i used dvdshrink to compress itYou could accomplish a better working movie-only backup using DVD Shrink's re-author mode. You can also cut out your credits and compress.
Look here (http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php) for re-authoring guides.
