I decided to program a gui for mencoder.

Mencoder is a Encoder out of the linuxworld. It was ported to Windows so I started to code this GUI. Razorblade my friend helped me out with his sources, so I added some apps of him into DRPEnc.

A little bit about the functions of DRPEnc:

looks like a really nice idea :D
but I (personally) think, that we first should work on the "perfect" commandline (so you could know which switches to implement :D)

Also a "filter" box would be cool as mencoder has got some really nice ones built in :D
(would be great to implement this in the templates... e.g. an "Cartoon/Anime Template" with a shorter GOP and denoise/smooth/sharpen filters :D)

@tickey: I don't care about KVCD.net. Lets do them there job and mine do I self. You want to code... wait here is the trailversion of delphi7 enterprise (169 MB) (ftp://ftpd.borland.com/download/delphi/d7/Delphi7TrialInstall.exe) You can use it for 30 days with all functions. Then You have to by it. I didn't try it to reinstall it, cos I bougth it:D . It always encodes to mpeg1 even though I chose mpg4, or RV10. No! It encodes in mpeg2 if you choosed mpeg2. You have to demux it to get the m2v-stream. I'll add a autodemux routine to RC5. Till now use TMPGEnc or another demuxer.

@RonaldMac: Sorry! I didn't update the first post here. Now I did.
I coded it in WinXP... So it is a winapp. I can release also a linuxversion of it. But now I only releases winbuilds.:scared:

Not working for me: 2 -pass
Even though I can select 2 pass, it never does it (mpeg4 or mpeg2)

Tips :) ?
1. Put DRPEncFiles folder in location user selects to install-NOT automatically on C:\. Many people like me use C:\ for boot/OS/swap file ONLY and don't like other things auto loaded on C drive.

2. Have it memorize were mencoder is (user selects path once to encoder one time then stored)

3. Have a preview button were new encoded file is opened in media player to preview (user selects path once to media player one time then stored)

4. Stamp each encoded file with date/time. No overwriting by accident, etc. and good info.

5. Have option to load exterior AC3-MP3 for muxing. Example. When creating .d2v project most people demux all tracks. Have it so user can select ac3. When ac3 is joined or demuxed it usually requires fixing (DSPguru's Besplit/ac3fix). This has to be done externally so loading of external files and just muxed with video would be good.

5. Load external mp3/.wav for compressing at same time mux with video.

6. Have Update Only link stating date/time of release.

7 The person who made avi2mpg (I read on his website he now works at mainconcept!) has command line tools to demux and analyze mpeg files. Perhaps you want to incorporate them into your GUI to save time/etc.

I go final!!!

If you encode MPEG DRPEnc demuxes the ES Streams after finishing encoding.
Now it is possible to change the VBR Settings. Also the Buffer.
Quantisation like in FFVFW added.
DRPEnc save the stats now in Logfiles. So You get one for 1st Pass and one for 2nd Pass.
Trellis added.
GOB lenght now editable.

Sorry but I can't change this. The AVS-Filters are installed there. Also bbdmux.exe and makeAVIS.exe. Till now I can't change this folder or some functions don't work anymore. C:\ has everybody. I create a folder for storing the working files. After deleting DRPEnc it will be deleted to. Download the source. Maybe You'll find a way to get this flexible. ... I got right now a way. I make a settings window. where You can setup the path to the files. So I can read out this files and so it is flexible. I add this into the next version...

@all: Nobody can encode MPEG4? Sounds crasy... ... I can. You have to choose the codec MPEG4 and don't use B-Frames and no Matrices. So it should work.

If you are already adding the ability to set the DRPEncFiles location in a settings window could you not just put the files in the same directory as your program.
Then (i think) you could just use ExtractFilePath(ParamStr(0)) to get the applications path.

I added some new features.

AC3ReEnc reencodes Your AC3Streams and get off the delay.
I added jsotos delaycut. With this app You can get of the delay of AC3 and DTS Streams.

Now I'm working on the DVDAuthor.

The params vi_qfactor and vb_qfactor seems to be exchanged by GUI when compiling command line output.
vi_qfactor must be 0.8
vb_qfactor must be 1.2

Now I'm working on a prediction function.

Its almost done!

Download the newest version 0.1.0.5 and read the guide btw.

How the precition will work:

First You have to set the goal size.

I tested it in 2Pass Mode.
For this example I needed 3700 MB for a DVD.
The sample size should have 74 MB cos I use 2% of the whole movie.

I start with the bitrate min 2500, avg 4500, max 6500 and got the filesize of 38.2 MB.
next bitrate was min 4500, avg 6500, max 8000 and got the filesize of 61.5 MB.
next bitrate was min 5000, avg 7000, max 8000 and got the filesize of 67.7 MB.
next bitrate was min 5200, avg 7000, max 8000 and got the filesize of 70,2 MB.
next bitrate was min 5400, avg 7000, max 8000 and got the filesize of 72.7 MB. This was close enough to 74 MB.

Now I run a check routine and set the double gobsize as frameoffset. Now I got complete different frames to code.
I take the bitrate min 5400, avg 7000, max 8000 and the checkfile got the filesize of 72.8 MB.

GOAL Finish. I can now encode the whole movie with min 5400, avg 7000 and max 8000.

... plus I can see the quality of the movie if I encode it in this bitrate...

... now I have to find a way to build this great function into DRPEnc...

This sample is exactly 1% of the movie. It is a action movie with lots of explosions... and it fits on 1 CD as SVCD in the quality of the sample! It never can get better than this quality of DRPEnc 0.1.0.7!

The ones who downloaded the 0.1.0.7;09:00 Version need only the Update Version to 0.1.0.7;19:14. You can find this on my page.

Back to Ghosts of Mars. DRPEnc finished the Encode. The quality is the same as the sample. I got a 600 MB M2V File. I wanted a 685 MB large file, but this is also OK. So I can add the english and the german audiotracks to this project.

If I'm not mistaken I would suggest another mencoder binary instead of the one included with DRPenc:

This hasn't given me crashes anymore on 2 pass, maybe is related to P4 HT enabled... but a least now it works with this.

(my system is rock solid itself, 12h xvid/cce encoding proof)

@all: Some People out of the MVCD-Forum wanted a GUI-Only Release. So it be.

There is still the Installer Version including all apps You need to run DRPEnc. The GUI-Only Release is only the GUI and a readme. So You'll know which addons You'll need to run this Version. Also I modified some apps I use in DRPEnc. You can also download these versions on this server.

[Edit] Updated the mencoder to the newest Version.

Changes:

Now You can setup also the Quantizer values in the Prediction mode.
Plus you can use now more then one disc for encoding.
Also I added new resolutions. 1/2 DVD and make all fullscreen. So if You have a 16:9 Movie You can choose for example DVD16:9to1/2DVD4:3. DRPEnc will zoom the 16:9 source to a 4:3 source with the right aspect ratio.

how can i do that? i've been unable to reach neither divx nor xvid from drpc. what do i do wrong?
afais, drpc is a gui for some command-line encoder, but how could it invoke a dll ? or am i completely mistaken ?

mpeg4 works now! I found some Bugs in the last 0.1.0.9 Version.

LJPEG without Advanced and Preprocessing.
AVS1 without Advanced and Preprocessing.
AVS2 without Advanced and Preprocessing.

All other crashes!!! This is a cos of the Advanced Settings and Preprocessing.

tickey, sorry about that. The last 0.1.0.9 should work with all functions. I'm working on 0.2.0.0. I've to setup the CMDLineCreator completly new. It can be that I've add some bugs, cos of new functions I've not update on all forms. 0.2.0.0 uses one form. So I can see now better were a bug is hiding. Can You wait till afternoon? ;)

If You want, send me Your last Batchfile and I'll see what goes wrong in Your case.

Sometimes I did stupied things myself! Bugga. In the templates the maxbitrate is 9800. I did a movie and forgot that the max valid bitrate is 10000. So I came over it and got a bufferunderrun. In one sceen of the movie it reached the 9800 and bang! So I'll fix this today. ... and I hope nobody used such high bitrates like in the templates of 0.2.0.3.:scared:

I found a new tool for checking the muxed MPEG-files. It is called MPEG Validator. I added it to the DRPEnc Package. Maybe it is usefull for You guys. If You don't like it, tell me and in the next release I skip it.

What is new in 0.2.0.4?

Speeded the mencoder up (fast, faster, DRPEnc)

So what is exactly Your problem? I see Your using 1Pass encoding with MP2 Audio. When did it stoppes exactly? After the encode or in the encode pass. I seems fine. BTW: DRPEnc supports only VOB, MPG, AVI (AVS over fakeAVI) as source input.

I just downloaded and installed your app and noticed one thing (it's about installer so you can start breathing now ;) ). Could you please add some autodetection if AviSynth is already installed? It's kinda confusing when you are dumped in to AviSynth installer. Same goes with ffvwf (or whatever that acronym actually is)

Actually i think just asking user if he wants to install this-and-that-app (mentioning the version to be installed) will do the trick.
One more thing. I had 0.2.0.1 version installed, during installation it made an icon on desktop (don't remeber if there was option to choose if i want to or not). After instalation of 0.2.0.4 i had two DRPenc icons on my desktop and after checking Program Files\DRPenc\ dir i found out that i have both 0.2.0.1 and 0.2.0.4 there.
As long as old version works with files that have changed between release it's ok with me but those icons on desktop are bothering me. I've installed 0.2.0.4, mindlessly clicked on first DRPenc icon in sight and saw 0.2.0.1. OK i admit i'm beeing picky but well isn't it beta testing just about that? :)
Using of your app is somewhat counterintiutive. I tried to encode some vob with it (small one) and all i got in return was bat file with no commands in -- please understand that i'm long-time unix admin and i do obey to rule: if all else fall read the manual (which i intend to do right now). See your program is probably awsome it's just hard to use for someone that fires it up for the first time. (Yesterday i also tried to play with DVD ReBuild and QuEnc and they are very intuitive to use).

A little howtowork with DRPEnc:

Start DRPEnc. Click at source on supported files.
Choose Your file (VOB/MPEG/AVI)
Go to advanced.
Click on a template.
Go to Encode.
Enter a output filename.
Click on Create BAtchfile
CLick on Save and Encode.

... hmm I think I should add a wizard to the app where these settings are in one window.

@All: The new Version (http://rj-elektronik.de/avideo/files/DRPEncSetup.exe) has now a new installer. I found one which supports uninstall the old version. But this one didn't support choosing packages. Also I coded a little GUI for choosing the needed apps and inplented it into the installer. I hope this will help.

Your new versions look great however I can't use it anymore.
No matter what version of Mencoder I use I always get: "exiting failed to parse cmdline" error.
It used to work for me so perhaps when I do more effing around with it it will come back.
For now I am having fun with QuEnc, and using the latest combo build of ffdshow/ffvfw build-love that VDUB interface-and the latest combo build is 2-3 times faster than the Feb04 I was using.

Amazing program Amnon82...however, I am having a bit of trouble getting it to work...I have done alot of experimenting with ffvfw...I actaully gave up on it becasue it is just to damm slow..now, I have started on Memcoder...I installed everything, and setup all the correct directories...the program simply finishes in a second, with "full encode pass done" and "this pass has the filesize of 4095.99999904633 MB"...any suggestions??, I wish I could see the command line error, but it flashes in a split-sec..I installed another build, just memcoder by itself, and I noticed that many of the directories pointing to the codec config files were all wrong...maybe this could be the problem too????

K, I think I must rewrite the whole GUI. I coded a new GUI for FFMPEG and I added some new features to this GUI. So I think I rewrite the MEncoder GUI like the one for FFMPEG.

BTW. the wrong path of the directories is right. Cos You don't have the codecs.conf in c:\cygwin\usr\local\bin\MPlayer\etc.

ifais, the 'basic' options are the same for mencoder and for ffmpeg (names may be different!). why do u think that 2 guis are needed ? besides a properly selected basic set, u should allow to read&pass (extra) command files. this way any extra command would be passed to the coders. am i wrong ?

Yes that can I do, but with two guis it is for my easier.
Anyway, I transfered the MEncoder GUI to the DRPEncXP Outfit.

Now also MEncoder has now all features of the new Design.
Now You can see what Your changing in the cmdline.
After the encode it shows You the logfile. So if some mistake apears You can see why.

Test this new version. If You have some suggestions or find bugs, please post here. I think that I soon get final.

DPREnc XP Me 0.91 Problem. The path to the mencoder ar not in " so that it don´t work with default installpath of WinNT and higher(c:\program files\dprenc). the manual editing of the commandline(inside the GUI) has no effects.

Oh then You have a problem! It is still a batchcommand. So there is now " " allowed. Sorry my friend. It is not a bug or something like that! It is the way it is. You have to deinstall the app and reinstall it for example in C:\apps\DRPEnc.

Standard location like C:\Program files don't work.
I don't have it cos in germany it is C:\Programme\DRPEnc.

Thats the only way You can solve it.

Sorry Mann. Ich (wir) dachte(n) du sprichst vom Leerzeichen. K, hast recht. Die "-Zeichen Zwischen der Log. K, hab sie vergessen. Generell kannst Du leider in meiner GUI die commandline nicht ändern, weil sobald Du auf Do it!!! klickst erstellt er die commandline nocheinmal. Das muss ich in der source ändern. Manuell kannst Du die line aber doch bearbeiten. Klicke auf Do it!!! und wenn er dich fragt es gleich zu encoden sagts du nein. Das einzige was du dann verlierst ist die CPU priority option, welche du aber auch manuell im Taskmanager einstellen kannst. Die GUI gibt dir dann noch die Message wo du die bat bespeichert hast. Öffne diese und bearbeite sie. Die "-Zeichen sind doch nur bei Quelle, Ziel und Log... oder hab ich eine Option vergessen, welche "-Zeichen benutzt?

Sorry man. I/We thougth Your meaning the "Space"-sign. K, You're right. It is the "-signs I forgot. In my GUI You can't edit the commandline, cos in the doit!!!-button is a last recreate routine build in. I must fix it in the source. Shure you can edit the line manually. Do it so: Click on 'Do it!!!' and if the gui ask it 'wanna encode' press no. It will say You where You saved it. Go to this place and edit the bat manually. The only thing You lost is the cpu priority option. But You can do it also manually using the taskmanager. The "-signs are only in Source, Target and Log or missed I one option...?

[Edit:] Ok, ich hab's jetzt in der commandline geändert. Mencoder.exe ist nun auch wischen zwei ". Die Log auch. Du kannst auch die gui only runterladen.

Different Icon: Yes it has a new Icon.
Add Versionnumber: No. For me it is simpler updating the page without editing everytime the link. If I don't have the time to update all 10 links... (I've more than this thread to update!)
CYGWIN: The meencoder build use the cygwin.dll. Normaly it isn't needed to install cygwin. This with the font I can fix maybe. I wanted to add a mingw build, but it crashed on my system. Even the build compiled by the MEncoder Team. I didn't checked the CVS of today.

For you is it easy to manage your site, but user have much trouble. no one know wich version he find when he download the file or archive it and will use it later again.
you use php on your site with this it is easy to create a script wich change the links to a new file.

Irgentetwas stimmt mit deinen mencodern nicht. er versucht ständig eine datei namens frameno.avi zu offen, woran er natürliuch scheitert, denn die gibt es nicht.

Ich gib Dir gleich Murmeltier! frameno.avi ist ein bug, welchen ich nicht beheben kann! Der ist im Mencoder dirn. Er scheitert daran nicht, er findet ihn nur nicht. Das passiert nur, wenn du rawvideo encodierst. Hier ein post von dem letzten Encode mit 1.02:

Verzei das Murmeltier. Ich wollte damit nicht sagen, das du soeins bist. Ich habe das rawvideo abgestellt auf der "Hauptseite" und diese beiden zeilen bezüglich frameno.avi sind weg. Aber es bleibt dabei das ich aus irgentwelchen gründen kein Video encodieren kann. Als source nutze ich eine MPEG1 Datei, die der mplayer(von mplayerhq.hu) auch ohne probleme abspielt. Wenn ich ihn aber encoden will, bekomme ich ein Fehlerfenster welches sagt das mencoder einen fehler verursacht hat und geschlossen wird.

HMM ... Du hast sicher noch ne alte build auf deinem rechner. oder lade dir http://rj-elektronik.de/avideo/files/MENCODERCYGWIN.ace Es ist eine CYGWIN build.

MINGW ist in letzter Zeit buggie. Wenn Du rawvideo abschaltest bekommst du ein mpg welches du demuxen musst. frameno.avi ist nicht wichtig. ist für mpeg4, was eh hier nicht der fall ist. Kannst es ruhig wieder anstellen.

Die fehlermeldungen in CYGWIN builds sind auch unerheblich. Du kannst mit diesen arbeiten. Hast Du einen AMD oder was? Oder doch nen Intel.
Ich teste mal schnell mpg...

don't bother with the daily builts! just install drpenc, it works on my athlon (thoroughbred). i've been unable to make any other menc win32 built work cus of this stupid hardcoced pathes. somehow it's possible to configure mencoder for running wout 'installation' (the official win32 builts are simply zipped in a definite structure) but i don't know how. ammon's releases (in drpenc) configure themself properly.
your commandline seems to be ok. maybe that 'brutal' forceidx command makes your system hanging. save the command line & delete that.

i've tested 1.01.
- it crashes at the end of encoding.
- how can i disable resizing ? (i wanna make all filtering in my avs script)
- why do u force idx ? it makes hanging my sys for awhile & drops encoding speed to the half or less. u should make an option for checking the source a/o rebuild the indices if necessary but not more.
- something goes wrong with the encoding as the m2v file generated is 'pumping'. time to time an ugly, blocky frame is generated. otherwise it seems ok.

C:\Program Files\DRPEnc\ is the bug. A commandline can't run with a space-sign in it. Did I told You that some posts before? ...

Look into my first post in this thread. I added in BOLD text a information for people using the english version of XP.

Also I changed the standard path of my installer to C:\DRPEnc. This should also fix this problem for noobs. :D If You want, down the new installer version.

I hope You get it now...

Du hast ein Leerzeichen in der line. C:\Program Files\DRPEnc\ daran hängts. Hatte ich das nicht schon ein paar posts früher erklärt. Egal, ich hab für Euch Leute die XP US benutzen in Fettschrift eine Information in meinen ersten Post diesen threads hinzugefügt.

Auch hab ich den Standartpfad im Installer zu C:\DRPEnc geändert, damit Ihr Anfänger keine Probleme bekommt. Von mir aus kannste ja die heute neu hochgeladene Version downen. Ich hoffe du hast es nun kapiert...

- spaces are not problem if they are quoted (capped in quotation marks) if i put your stuff into 'program files' it worx also fine. program name, file name(s) must be quoted, that's all. pls, do not hardcode any 'default' folder or sg! it's ok as it is/was.
- problems are with other hardcoded 'standard routes' where menc try to achive some runtime support (codec info, fonts, whatever).
i can't understand it. even also the official win32 releases contain some fake, linux-like routes never exist on any win32 system. no such problems with your compiles, anyway. where does your installer register the routes needed ? maybe, i should edit them by hand.
- other problem is with config file. milan has renewed/debugged ffvfw alot and renamed the dlls. making avis with his new makeavis results in crash of menc as there's no ffvfw.dll anymore. this dll is prompted by the config file! i've been playing hours with it but no solution so far. (no problem with your makeavis but it's quite outta date:-) somehow we should (re)edit the config file or what. (other stupidity. menc reads the codec info from a 'dummy' text file instead of scanning the system for it)

wufff ... i'm quite busy at the moment but i will try your new build(s) asap.

The space in the path can´t be the problem, then it find mencoder. I think it is a problem of one of the commandline option or the compile option.

Ja wir hatten das mit dem Leerzeichen schon mal. Und ich hatte dir empfohlen alle Pfadangaben in Anführungszeichen zu setzten. Da du das gemacht hast, stellen Sonderzeichen und Leerzeichen kein Problem mehr da. Es würde dir auch helfen mal die Helfedatein von Windows betreffen der Kommandozeile zu lesen.

Das Problem was ich habe muss mit den kommandozeilen Optionen oder den Compile Optionen zu tun haben.

Mich als Anfänger zu bezeichnen ist eine beleidigung. Ich habe seit meinem 10 Lebensjahr(1990) mit Computern zu tun und seit 1998 beschäftige ich mich mit Videos.

imho, you're got some compatibility problems. ammon's compiles need a p4 compatible cpu. maybe, yours is not that. try different win32 compiles from the official site (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/win32-beta/) or from the/an unofficial (sunset) site (http://mplayer.sunset-utopia.homeip.net/)

Thanks yaz. The mencoder-win32-mingw-dev-cvs20040317.exe builf from mplayer.sunset-utopia.homeip.net work at my machine. Amnon82 has say that he use a AMD so i don´t have think that the CPU is the problem.

I´m again. The old testvideo has no audio so i wasn´t wondering that the audiomenu is deadth. But my next Video has and the audiomenu is also deadth. It´s a avi file with xvid and mp3. isn´t it supported or muast i somewhere check somethink to encode also the audio?

You have to disable rawvideo then the audiomenu is enabled. Click on the comboboxes and choose the settings. Anyway it isn't good encode audio with mencoder, cos the mpeg will be mpeg1 without audiopadding, even if You use MPEG2.

Encode the audio seperatly. I'm working with tickey on a new audioencoder based on ffmpeg. For the mencoder build I'm realy sorry. On my machine it works. I've a AMD XP 2800+ and enabled SSE2 for a P4.

The other builds yaz posted You is compiled with cpudetection. I can also build this kind of, but with cpudectection it is slower...

at yaz: nice to here that. (It works for You ... 1.03) :D

at all: I reupped the 1.03 Installer with the new CVS 07.03.04 of MEncoder. this time I enabled CPU Detection. Tell me if this is better for You guys.

just to make it clear. i've never ever has been able to use your guis. they always seem to hang/crash right after starting. i use your mencoder compiles as they work much quicker on my athlon then the other 'general' win32 stuffs so i stay with the previous built (no cpu detection).
i plan to make a step by step investigation on your command line(s) but it needs a lot of time (which i haven't got now). what i know so far is that the problem is not with forceidx. with or wout it's the same.
btw, does anyone know how over/under flow is controlled? i mean, which options should i tweak?

@yaz, when did it exactly crash? Starting the GUI or using the GUI?
I coded the GUI in Delphi7Enterprise and used upx to get a smaller size.
For U I uppload the original exe in his original size. Try this one (http://rj-elektronik.de/avideo/files/DRPEncme2.exe).

It is normal that it the first time freeze for some sec. This is cos DRPEnc search for his EXE in your pc. On the second start it reads the ini out which was created during the search of the first start. If I change the name of the GUI it searched for the new name. This is normal.

no problem with the gui. i have the ini file too. when i start encoding, a dos win pops in only with some lines (taken from the bat generated by drpenc) & then comes an error msg (access denied ...) & then nothing. maybe i was too unpatient. what should i see when drpenc worx (properly:-).
hmmm ... now i see u redirect the ouputs to a log file. i got it. wufff ... maybe it worked all the time ? ok, i try it again. anyway, sg else than that error msg would be more pleasant during the operation. maybe that mislead me :-)
a short quest. is it possible to set the encoder different than mpeg2video (say, mpeg2)? if yes ... how ?

Normaly You should see all, excluded the lines without ECHO.

mpeg2 I can't change cos it is build in in Mencoder. My gui creates a batch and uses MEncoder for encoding the movie. The most error messages You can ignore, cos it is still a CVS build of MEncoder.

btw DRPEncME is an old build. If you need some changes let me know. When you can code Delphi you can also have the sourcecode, if you want to develop it further.

@ac-chan123: I'm using an AMD64 3500+ which uses SSE2 >> P4 compatible build of MEncoder was used here. Sorry but the program is form the year 2004.
