I have 5 mpeg files of 5-6 minutes each. I created a menu and added the files.
Everything went okay....butt when I play the vcd on my dvd machine I have this problem.
I can only access the file by pressing the rewind skip search button. The menu is there but Is useless I can't select anything with it.
If I burn one mpeg files without a menu it plays automatically so everything is great but if I add 2 or more mpeg files, I must also use the rewind skip search to acces the files.
Anyone encountered a similar problem and how to solve this.
I use nero5 to burn.

Hi,
Since you did not tell us how you created the menu (i.e. which tool, authoring software, etc.), I'm assuming you're using Nero (because you said you used Nero 5 to burn) to create the menu. If you're using Nero 5 to create the menu template, here what I think.
* Nero's VCD template usually default the amount of time between track to "infinite". The default time of "playing the menu" is also "infinite". You can always change these values by selecting the clip or menu and change the properties like 60 sec. for the menu, and whatever for the clips (i.e. 0 sec is no waiting)
Hope this will help.

Hi Bubba,
Indeed I'm using nero for encoding. Actually I tried tmpge but nero still seem to want to encode the file.
You mention that """Nero's VCD template usually default the amount of time between track to "infinite". The default time of "playing the menu" is also "infinite".""""
In my case it is set to 5 seconds so that's not the problem.
Is there an easier way to burn an avi or mpeg file for vcd than using nero?
thanks

Hi ringo,
VCDEasy also let you do it, but I always use Nero to do the burning. For authoring VCD, I usually use 2 tools:
1. VCDEasy (if I want to create chapters)
2. Nero's VCD Template (if I just want a simple menu)
I always use Nero to burn it, even with VCDEasy produced cue/bin file. The reason is that my final VCD product usually exceed 80min, and Nero is the best for overburning. Currently, I'm using Nero 5.5.42. I don't use Nero 6.
To create a VCD, i.e. from an AVI for example, I mostly use TMPGEnc's VCD provided templates, and so I shouldn't have any problem when I drop these TMPGEnc's produced mpeg when authoring with Nero. Sometime I changed my audio to 48KHz (so I can use later when authoring DVD), and of course Nero will complain, and I just ignored what it said, and Nero still produce me a watchable VCD.
I'm not sure I did answer your question or not, but I hope it does help.
Cheers,
