View Full Version : Tearing on MPC + which output

Well, I really don't know if it's allowed to post such poll here in this forum. I read the rules and it seems OK to me. So, which output method do you guys use on MPC? :)

But my question is about MPC's VMR7/9 (renderless) playback. When I set any of them as output I have a small tearing on top of the screen when seeing fullscreen (4:3) movies. On any widescreen movie the playback is just perfect. I also have perfect playback on any other output method (including VMR7/9 (windowed)). So I was wondering, does it have to do with the subtitles? Do you guys also experience this? Is this a problem with my computer? (ATI Radeon 8500, P4 2.0GHz, 512MB RAM)

Anyway, it is a question and not a bug reporting. It really doesn't bother me that much. I mean, I'd certainly rather use the MPC subtitling feature. All I want is to understand why does this happen. I've searched the forum for "MPC tearing (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=164440&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending)" and the forum returned me the "New release..." topic. But that topic is huge! How I was supposed to find where people talk about this in there? So sorry for creating another topic on this.

Thanks for your help. ;)

[EDIT] Just one more question. :) Is VMR9 supposed to produce better image quality than VMR7? Thanks again.

I'll try this fullscreen issue at home ...

I'm using Overlay mixer mode with VSfilter and 1 output at once ...

So what is the best option to view videos ?
I know the answer: "That depends on what You want: 2 displays, 1 display, built-in subtitles, VSFilter ... etc"

It will be good if somebody would make such a list ...

I've got tearing with vmr9 renderless only, but when using dx9 there should be no tearing according to documentation or everyone I asked, therefore there is no function to wait for vsync in dx9 either, it can be only controlled from the display properties. Strange. Maybe it's because we all use ever-beta drivers?

Oh, great! Than tearing is not my fault. And neither it is yours or MPC. :)

I don't know if it's because of beta drivers though. I always use ATI latest drivers. ATI's drivers are not always 100% (like most of NVIDIA's Detonator versions are). So maybe it is a driver problem really (even though I'm using DirectX 9). Anyway, my video card is not DX9 compatible, and the tearing on VMR7 is probably due to the fact I do have DX9 installed.

Thanks for your helps guys. ;)

[EDIT] Oh, and VMR9 is supposed to produce a better image quality then VMR7?
