So far I have successfully used smartripper to rip one of my dvds onto the computer. However it is in many vob files. I'm wondering if there is a way to make it into one file preferably a mpg. Also how would I go about burning it to disc from where I am? If there is a guide for this id be very appreciative, i was unable to locate it. Thanks

Welcome to Doom9's forum!
The ripped files on your hard drive will need to undergo a compression scheme, you can't burn and view them as is. If you have a CD burner, DVD2SVCD might be a good place to start, if Santa blessed you with a new DVD burner, you've several options to choose from, but DVD Shrink is user friendly.....and free. Take a jaunt through the Guides page, each of these programs, and many others, can be found there.
Guides > Format Conversions
If you decide to try DVD2SVCD, you'd be better off to dump your ripped files and let the embedded ripper do its thing, all this is explained in the guide should you choose to accept this mission. :)
Good luck!

Is there a guide to using this program or could someone offer some help please. I am trying to make an exact copy of a dvd from disc to disc. This is the right program yes?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's the "right" program, but it's user friendly, free, and the DVD Shrink Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm) that this link will take you to is a good one. Eyeball it up....and go to work!

You can rip your dvd in streams mode. You will get a m2v(video) and a ac3(audio).
