Xvid Play Back Problem

OK, i have a problem, every time i try and play this one xvid file media player crash's.Then after crashing if i try and delete the file it tells me its in use, even if i go in to safe mode it wont let me delete it.I have to go into safe mode with command promt and delete it that way.
If i open it in Virtualdub i get no picture and if i move the slider i get a message at the bottom saying 'Error decompressing video frame 0: an unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code-100) '

I have xvid installed as i just tryed another xvid file and that plays fine.

Sounds like that file is old and broken. Also sounds like you didn't encode it yourself. And as such we can't really support it. Your best bet is try alternate filters for playing the file. i.e. make sure XviD filter is playing it back (and not DivX or 3ivx, etc) and then try the latest XviD filter or my old filter or ffdshow.

Let me guess...you're using Windows XP? It has a (well known) bug that can prevent you from deleting avi files.

Try using the tools 'DivFix' and DRFAnalyzer to see if the file is OK.
(Use Google to get them.)

Most times overwriting the file with a 0 byte file (with the exact same name) helps to get rid of these, if that doesnt work you can also try to delete it with the cmd prompt.

OK, i tryed it on my other pc.The latest media player just crash's, but i tryed it in the latest media player classic.Now media player classic did crash aswell, but before it did it gave me this message.....

' this avi was not prepared for sequential reading,alternative 'avi splitter' will now let the default one handle it.The complete reinterleaving of this file is strongly recommended before burning it onto a slow media like cdrom'

I dont know if this message has anything to do with it crashing.On xbox media player and media center it starts for about 1min then locks up.
