View Full Version : Mulitple Number of Frames Error in Scenarist

I'm backing up my copy of Lion King Special Edition. The main movie has angles in it so I used the latest beta of DIF4U and the option for DVD2AVIdg to avoid that frame loss issue. I created the script using SceneAid and it appears that the angles and everything were set up properly. But I get this error in Scenarist:
Error This VOB duration (8964.5 frames) is not multiple number of frame.
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (LION.scn-VTS21V008_t.vob.0).
Error The VOB duration must be even number of fields.
Error Multiplex is failed.
The VTS21V008 contains the angles. Any idea on what to do?

OK well I figured out a way to get it to work for me by trying some of the suggestions from previous threads (I probably should've done that before posting THIS thread :stupid: )
I used this suggestion by OxP:
Goto the Track Editor, Select the track. Select the video. Look at box in lower center. Increase...or decrease the duration by 1 frame. Make sure its same length for all the angles.
To clarify those instructions a bit for anyone else, you just open up your track in the Simulation Window and then click on the "Video" tab and then select the "Play" radio button. Then you increase or decrease the duration in there. I increased it by one frame and everything went off without a hitch.
And another thing that I came across from Eyes`Only:
Make sure you close all GOPs and restrict auto I-frame insertion in CCE. If you haven't done this, delete your .vafs, and go back and reencode.

I have found that sometimes, it may need to be more then 1 frame.
Like for a NTSC DVD, the frames have to be a certain number for seamless play and angles. Like it doesn't like 28, but 24 is good, but 25,26,27 are not, neither is 29 as then is throughs the audio off

In DoCCE4U 1.0.1.5 Beta in the source section there is a checkbox for Angle and this is how the Help file explains it:
Angle: Check this box if your source for this job is part of a set of angle files. This will ensure that "Close all GOPS" and "Fixed GOP Length" are set in the .ecl file. (Note: Currently it's the user's responsibility to ensure that the length of all angle jobs are the same. The next version of DoCCE4U will scan all jobs after the data is loaded and set the angel and set the lengths to the shortest length.)
I have not tried it yet myself, but this could be something worth checking out.

Update:
Ok, I tried it and it works.
Just check the Angle check box in DoCCE4U and re-encode angle files. Don't forget to lower your max bitrate as this most likly will be set too high.
Also, for "Error- The VOB duration must be even number of fields." note the length of movie in DoCCE4U and set the movie tracks to this in Scenartist (My PGC had 2 sets of Angles. The 1st set of Angles I had to change the length , but the second set was ok).

We are currently researching a more definative solution to this problem.
It appears that in order for a DVD to mux properly if it has angles the angle asset MUST be a multiple of the GOP size.
For example, if your GOP size is say 15, then the total # of frames for that asset must be divisable by 15 - this should help you to determain how many frames to adjust your track by
One solution posted in the forums elsewhere recommends setting your GOP size to 1 but I'm not sure that is the best solution

Update2:
After the changes, scenartist was able to create the VOB's with no errors. But when the VOB was played, the part of the movie with the angles played back wrong. It would flicker to the other language angle from time to time. This was the set of angles where I had to adjust the length. I did not check the other set of angles where I did not change the length.
I finally gave up and just deleted the angles from the tracks and fixed everything with IfoEdit.
Oh well...
In case anyone is interested the movie I was working on was "My Boss's Daughter"

took me a week (although i did other projects in between just to regain sanity) to get my first non-seamless angle project done correctly.. although when i was finished it worked 100% the right video for the right language (this movie had 4-5 separate sections that were nonseamless angled.) maybe you can go back to it when you have time.. ;)

Yea, I might try this one again later. I did learn some things I was not aware of before and it really bugs me that I was not able to get it completly right. Even though I don't know the other language in the angles...ha ha
Next one I'm determined to get it right.
@D3s7
Thanks for the "multiple of GOP" tip. That's probably what went wrong.
