problem about rv10 1-pass & 2-pass max bitrate

1. because realanime vbr max bitrate is set to 5x, which he mention this would create a more constant quality, so I try to encode one with 1-pass vbr 500 average 2500 max, but resulting file becomes 738 average (source is xvid+ac3), leading to a much bigger file size...so wondering whether this 5x suits for 2-pass only? if using 1-pass what's a better choice of max bitrate for encoding anime and films respectively?

2. btw, what scene allow us to see the difference between 65, 85 more clearly and easily? I encode some different anime high motion scene but still cannot really see the difference, even 2-pass 85... maybe because of anime? films would be more clear?

I don't really want to spend any more time trying to understand how to make this old rate control behave itself well. Having a high maxBitrate is good for constant quality, same with Maximum Startup Latency, but both usually results in the codec overspending bits. It all comes from how the current rate control inhertis from streaming requirements, and always take into considerations the clips' streaminb propererty within a certain window size. Too complicated to explain here. Still, two runs with the same settings should give the same results, always.
