Nth Pass Encoding

Hello to everyone! :)

Usually when I encode a movie with DivX codec using 3-pass encoding I create a Log File (ex.: Movie.Log).

However, depending on the final results, I may want to encode the same video using a different resolution (a higher one or a lower one, according to the final quality).

When changing the resolution of the movie, do I need everytime to make all the long-time 3-pass encoding process :(? Or is there any way to use the file Movie.Log so I would only need to do a new final 3th pass encoding ('Second Pass - Nth Pass')? It should save time, if it's possible.

The equipment used is a Pentium-4 1.8Gb, 128Mb, Windows 2k system. Usually I use GordianKnot to create the avs file and I use VirtualDub 1.5.4 to open that avs file and do all the encoding process. The codec I am using is Divx Pro 5.1.1.

Any help would be appreciated.

How about doing a compressibility test to get a better idea about which resolution, filesize, resizer to use?

Hello to all,

I've compressed all the encoding using a different resolution and I've compared the Log files; they're identical!

Once I've read a thread about doing the nth pass again without repeating the 1th pass encoding; unfortunately I did not save this page.

Since the LOG files are identical, I'll try encoding the same movie at a different resolution doing only the last pass using the original Log file to see what happens.

I'll write again as soon as I get results.

Here is the feedback for the message above. :)

I encoded some movies doing only the final Nth Pass Encoding using the original Log files and the results were excelent.

As I said, I can't find again that thread about encoding only the final pass encoding. If anyone finds it, please, report if I am missing any detail.
