What's your favorite custom matricies?

I can't edit the poll, can a moderator change the "none" selection to "not listed"?

hvs-best picture all the way

HVS-good can sometimes really gain some quality for a given filesize. It can boost compression quite nice. In some cases with more than 10% compared to standard h263.

Oh yeah, this might sound stupid, but what does HVS stand for?

Oh yeah you can pick more than 1 favorite because different matricies are used for different types of encodes, but most people stick to 1-2 matricies as their favorite.

jk:

we have a nice "edit" button below your posts. Next tme, before posting just for the fun of posting, edit your initial post please.

I won't edit the poll as this poll is absolute nonsense.

atreya:
HVS is short for Human Visual System. (I agree that this one is hard to dig up via board search or goole ;) )

CG because it's the high-bitrate brother to H.263, and HVS good/better/best because they're the optimized HQ versions of MPEG-standard :D.

Sorry it's my first poll ever so I didn't know it makes an extra post

What's so bad about this poll? Everyone has a matrices they use often, it's cool to see which are the popular ones. I'm sure end users will love this poll.

Also can I add another poll? Cause this poll is too short, only allows 10 choices, while there are a few more matrices I left out. I want to add a "What's your favorite custom matricies PART 2", which will have the rest of the matricies.

It's "SixOfNine".

Anyone know which matrix is best for fast motion movies? I am testing andreas_einfache_99er and hvs-best. It seems andreas_einfache_99er is better but the file size is much large. In most case, it's hard to see the differences between andreas_einfache_99er and hvs-best, may be only in some fast motion scence.

a) where can i find these matricies? (can they be found in one place?)

and b) what's a good one for Finding Nemo @ 1CD bitrates?

That's a really nice matrix, otherwise HVS-best.

Go to the folder where you have installed XviD. There is file called "XviD_Quant_Matrices.zip". Extract it.

Try the CG-Animation Matrix. I dont know how the results will be though because I have not experimented will all of them.

My 2 cents:

Best all-rounder: HVS-best-picture

High-bitrate matrix when I prefer to filter out grain: Andreas' 78er
High-bitrate matrix when I prefer to keep grain and detail: Didée's SixOfNine
High-bitrate matrix for very clean sources: Didée's 'semi-insane' (well, that's what I named it when saving it) matrix found here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?postid=404857&#post404857)

High bitrate should more aptly be called 'high compressibility with standard matrix' of course.

There's also an excellent high-bitrate matrix "Fox Home Entertainment"

I cannot vote here because I am usually using the mpeg matrix. But I think I will 'abuse' this thread to ask one of my less smart questions so that I don't have to out myself on the board ;)

The Xvid package contains, beside others, the following matrix files Standard.txt and MPEG.txt. Up to know I was of the opinion that the matrix which you see when opening the custom matrix dialog were the Mpeg matrix. However tha one contained in MPEG.txt is quite different from that. Instead, the Matrix in Standard.txt seem to be the one that I took to be the Mpeg matrix. So, is this how it is, i.e., are there three different default matrices H263, Mpeg, Standard, or, is there a 'bug' in the Matrix archive, or, Am just ... well .. YKWIM :).

The reason I am interested in this question is the fact that, once upon a time, when I was still young etc., I did some tests with matrices that were what I thought modified Mpeg matrices. Now it seems, however, they were modified Standard matrices.

Ah well ... have a nice day everybody.:)

Perhaps he's talking about "The Matrix" by Warner Bros. ;)

/edit: whoopsydaisy. was talking bullshit. see here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55960&highlight=fox

btw:

Isn't it senseless to compare "compressability", i.e. size at fixed quant of different matrices (as a certain quant in one matrix corresponds to a higher or lower quant in a different matrix), as some people did in this thread? I thought it only makes sense to compare the resulting visual quality and/or PSNR of a resulting 2pass fixed size file

Just my two € cents
