Basic problem - AutoGk can't find a d2v file, so it won't run.
I've tried clean installs of 0.80 and 0.96 and tried the default settings, as outlined in the longer and shorter tutorials.
see my next post in this thread, in which I install a clean AutoGK 0.80 and try again.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything. Also ran DVD Decrypter again. Same result.
As I messed files a bit before, I'll repost.

gk_tmp is empty.
One other odd symptom - xvid seems to interfere with playing avi's using MPC. unistalling xvid cures the problem. And, yes, I uninstalled *after* trying autoGK.

Another data point:
The AutoGK guide says
Preview. This will take a few minutes to set up (7-15 maybe, for a full movie, and a few minutes longer if you want subtitles). It has to create a project file using DVD2AVI, and maybe Subtitles using VobSub.
When I hit preview, I get the error message about no .d2v file immediately. It is not certainly not taking 7-15 minutes to set up.
dvd2avi is installed by autogk. I tried creating a d2v file manually and moving it to the gk_tmp directory, hoping that autogk would find it and use it. autogk deletes it, complains there is no d2v file, and dies.

Hi-
It is not certainly not taking 7-15 minutes to set up.
It would if it had actually done any indexing. Are you sure that you installed both the Basic Files (http://len0xmirror1.serveftp.net/~len0x/AutoGordianKnot.0.8.Setup.exe) as well as the 0.96 Update (http://len0xmirror1.serveftp.net/~len0x/AutoGordianKnot.0.96.beta.Update.exe)?

Absolutely positive that I've installed both 0.80 and 0.96.
dvd2avi is installed, but does not launch.
EDIT: I tried both 0.80 alone and both 0.80 and 0.96 together. In addtion, I ran the installed dvd2avi, which took 7-15 minutes :) and produced a d2v file.

Where does AutoGK expect to find dvd2avi?
I decided to try the full GK, and noticed that GK defaults to dvd2avi.exe in the GK folder, but the installer installs GK\dvd2avi\dvd2avidg.exe
Alas, even with the correct pointer, dvd2avi appeared to fail in r4r:

dvd2avidg runs fine when launched directly

which CPU are you running it on?
DVD2AVI seems to have problems with old CPUs in command line mode (as well as old dual systems).

I've been using an old Thinkpad notebook with a 350mhz CPU.
Is there a work-around? As mentioned, I tried running dvd2avi standalone (gui, not cli), but AutoGK deletes the d2v file.

I'm afraid there is no workaround atm. Until DG is back to check CLI execution of DVD2AVI there is nothing we can do about it :(

Which is deleting the d2v file - autogk or dvd2avi? EDIT: seems to be autogk
In either event, I could just manually create a d2v and replace autogk's dvd2avidg.exe with a stub.
of course, encoding will likely take a very long time with a 350, but my chosen successor to this notebook won't be out for another month or two.

I got autogk to start doing the following:
- Rename dvd2avidg
- Add a stub program to the dvd2avi dir labelled dvd2avidg which just reports its command line
- start autogk
- when the stub starts, run dvd2avi using the parameters autogk tried to use
- copy the resulting d2v and ac3 files to the gk_tmp directory autogk created (gk_tmp is a subdir of the dir entered in autogk under output file)
- hit add job and start
this gets autogk started. seems to work, although given the speed of my processor, actually completing a compression would take a couple of days.
hope this helps someone.
EDIT: I noticed that autogk changed the d2v file to specify "forced film." dvd2avi created it as Field_Operation = 0.

Hi,
I've got the same issue as richarddd on a some computers.

Confirmed, also Dual systems. One System is a Dual Celeron 500, the other a Dual Celeron 433 and the third system is a dual Pentium II 400 SECC2 system.
It would still be nice to be able to use these old systems for AutoGK, is this issue being worked on?
Thx for your help.

Those who have issues with DVD2AVI launching on their systems - are you still here ? Neuron continued work on DVD2AVI, so we need testers to fix the problem. Please reply asap.
