View Full Version : screen saver delays processing?

I searched for this but couldn't find it, so here goes.
I start up the encoding process last night and wake up to find that VDub is only at 31%. It's not taking a long time--it just wasn't processing. Now that I've been reading the news for a while it has gone up to 46%. Is there something I'm missing here? Why does the prog stop processing when the screen saver (when the monitor turns-off due to lack of use) kicks in?

If VdubMod is set to "Idle" priority, ANY running process will have higher priority. The default setting is "Normal" but you certainly might have changed it. You can change it for running encodes, through the setting on the Status Window.
You can also set a default priority. To set it start VdubMod, click "Options...Preferences". The default process priority is in the tree structure in the VdubMod tab, but it's easier to see on the Main tab under "Dub Defaults".

I think it is set here for low priority. I wasn't aware that the power saving option would be a process. Thanks.

If the power saving option includes a shutdown to "Stand By" that would also halt activity.
This isn't really Gknot related. I'm going to move this to the Vdub forum as there may be some experts there who would like to weigh in with better suggestions.

of course it would be trivial for "developers" of vdubmod to listen for WM_POWER or WM_POWERBROADCAST events and deny suspend events (unless running on a laptop machine and battery level IS low).
Same about the screensavers.
