Honestly, I doubt it's looking like my own XviD version - 960*528 (720p, anamorphic) @ 2300kbps (video bitrate only)

Okay, after having (only) a short look:
it looks pretty much like expected. Homogenous quality, artefact-free as far as I could see for now. Without a direct side-by-side comparison to something else, one could say: "bombastic!"

But comparing it to my sharp-processed XviD version, I have to say: it looks just OK - not more, not less - regarding the resolution. There's not really anything to criticize about that clip. But it's not the end of the technical maximum, also.

However, I must give it a closer look at home. Here at office, it is not a good idea to do extensive video comparisons ... :rolleyes:


Sirber: Just to be sure: is that an encoding you made yourself, or does it come from somwhere else? (It is not on M$ showcase page.)

pretty good quality... i have the dvd so i can compare...but the dvd have no frame-droppi,g so it's better ;-))

i think it takes too much cpu...for a benefit only show on hd-tv...

my cousin have a 120cm tv (plasma) : dvd looks very good as for xvid/divx/rmvb

even dvdvideo made from vcd looks good (better than vhs but you can see artifacts...it's only vcd resolution so...)

so i will not use this wm9 format...if i want hdtv i will use rv10 or xvid at high bitrate...

No, it doesn't make sense. But yes, it makes sense for sure!

It just depends on how you are doing things.

If you are just simply upsizing the video, there is not much to gain. The only improvement, then, would be that the picture was upsized by a bicubic or lanczos algorithm, whereas most (or all) video cards are supposed to use only bilinear sampling for upsizing the video on playback time.

However, if one is willing to invest a lot of time in encoding with a set of special purposed upsampling and sharpening filters, it is no problem at all to make a "pseudo-HDTV" encoding that looks definetly better than the original DVD source.

Search the forum e.g. for "sharpresize" (by mf). Also, this weekend I am about to publish an avisynth script that could be of use in this respect.

For low bit/pixel*fps and/or low compressibility WMV9, VP6 or RV10 are very better than XviD 1.0 or DivX 5.1.1 ...

Use this reg for optimum quality with WMV9 ... ;-)

After using this, the quality is worst :(
(Tested also with Coralreef_1080p, before was much better)
