I don't know about some of you guys but I've started to get the feeling that good old DivX is being left behind, when it comes to features.

For me, as an anamorphic encoding fan I would really like to see: -

01 - Aspect Ratio Signalling, incorporated into the Mpeg4 bitstream (just like you can now have with XviD and 3viX).

02 - The ability to place the encoded video stream into an MP4 container.

03 - A built-in stream muxer/de-muxer

So, what about you guys?

Cheers

Ooh Ooh, this'll be fun!

I want to see a Mastering Mode, whereby no corners are cut when it comes to the PQ. In other words, if it takes 3500kbps to do a scene in a video where the average bitrate was say, 1000kbps, I want the compressor to scale to that bitrate, no questions asked.

This would be a boon to me and other content providers who have Very High quality source, but are sometimes disappointed with the output of the compressor. Low light, low saturation scenes (which prevail in movies like Lost In Translation) are difficult for MPEG4, I realize, but in theory I can just throw bits at the problem until it goes away.

Boiled-down, I want a mode that doesn't care so much about bitrate. But with more controlability than a constant-quality mode offers. And with less fussing and tweaking than is necessitated by EKG.
