Has anyone tried this tutorial

in the US with Direct TV?
I have been looking for something like this for a while to record football games or movies, edit the commercials, and then burn them to dvd.
The problem is that I have to record it from Direct TV to my Winfast 2000 xp, take the commercials out with Ulead video studio, recompile/rebuild it, make the iso file, then over to DVD Shrink to shrink it to fit on one dvd, and then finally DvD Decrypter to burn!
I have only done two movies this way and it takes forever.
Is there a way to get the Direct TV stream like you get with Directivo?
If not, any other suggestions on how to simplify this?
