View Full Version : American Wedding - Backing up only unrated version + extras?

Hi I have been trying for almost a month to back up American Wedding. It's a seamless branched DVD, and there is a rated and unrated version of the movie (the unrated has a longer part of the bachelor party :D ). I looked over the seamless branching guide and it seems far too involved for my to follow. I've tried unchecking the rated version in DIF4U and in ReAuthorist but I get some kind of audio length mismatch when trying to author in Scenarist. Any quick tips or a short guide rather about how I can go about this? Thanks.

Demux by VOBID using DoItFast4U and re-encode as normal
Try using SceneAid after that... I know there's some sub issues with other movies however I know a few people how have used it on AW

I just tried that but every time I check demux by Vob ID, once it finishes and opens up Reauthorist it says that PGC 5 (which has the main movie) is a dummy file...Should I try using DVD decryptor and do that by Vob ID, then select HDDemux in DIF4U?

you cannot use RA for vobid projects.
you could try sceneaid (see d3s7s sig above), although it is still in heavy development it may work for you.
if not, you will have to read through all the guides on vobid demux and reauthoring manually.
good luck

edit/ oops...should probably read a bit closer. sorry d3s7, you already mentioned your excellent program...:D

I'll try that, I thought D3s7 meant that I should use sceneaid after I encoded, I'll take a look at that then and see. Thanks

go DIF4U > DoCCE4U > SceneAid
leave ReAuthorist out of the equation when it comes to encoding vobid projects. if required you can use it to generate a script but you will have to do a LOT of manual authoring to fix errors and the vobid tracks.

Sorry for being so "stupid" but how do I go from DIF4U to the DoCCE4U step? Do I have to manually calculate the bitrate for each VobID?

well.. just boot up docce4u (or batchccews) and File->Load File List.. then load the ccedata.txt in your work directory

Ok I finished the encoding and ran SceneAid and got the Scenarist script. But how can I cut out the rated version of the movie and keep the unrated one? And how come I didn't set the bitrate when I encoded? Wouldn't I have to calculate the individual bitrate for each VOBID?

well....although i dont own the movie, i would assume that your structure for the unrated is exactly the same as the rated version, except for one vobid.
therefore the bitrates that DIF4U calculates will be correct.
and for the record, you may as well keep both versions as there will be very little (if any) space saving on your disk by removing it....and dont you want a perfect back-up?

that's true, I didn't think about that. Anyways, everything looks good except for one small problem. The first VTS (VTS__05_V001) of the movie didn't seem to encode with DoCCE4U (meaning that when i loaded ccedata.txt it didn't come up on the list). Now when I open up scenarist to author there's a placeholder on this VTS. I looked in the directory and found: VTS__05_V001.P.16~9_1.M2V cause all the other vts's are .m2v files, but when I try to point to this file and change the place holder i get this message:
Warning This Video [ C:\Tony\DVD Backup\American Wedding\VTS05\VTS__05_V001.P.16~9_1.M2V ] has different duration.
Warning C:\Tony\DVD Backup\American Wedding\VTS05\VTS__05_V001.P.16~9_1.M2V
Warning : Number of SequenceEndCode is 0.
This is the beginning of the movie too so I dont know why it didn't get encoded. Any ideas? Thanks!

that's a common and well known problem
search the forums or look in the doitfast4u helpfile - both will tell you about that one

Sorry I think my post above was a little bit misleading. I have been searching the forum for an answer to this but haven't found anything yet. Here's the error message when I actually try to create the dvd files:
Error The aspect ratio 4:3 in PGC "VTS5_Title1_PGC1" is different from 16:9 in "Title:<VTS5_Title1> VTS:<VTS_5>". DVD does not allow multiple aspect ratios in the same VTS or Video Manager.
Error The aspect ratio 4:3 in PGC "VTS5_Title2_PGC2" is different from 16:9 in "Title:<VTS5_Title2> VTS:<VTS_5>". DVD does not allow multiple aspect ratios in the same VTS or Video Manager.
Error Validate From DB failed.
Obviously the aspect ratio is the error but when I open up VTS__05_V001.P.16~9_1.M2V in dvd2avi, it says its 16:9 ratio (even in the filename too).

easiest fix is to fix the 4:3 flag in your reauthorist.scp or sceneaid.scp TO 16:9. Sometimes the ifo has 16:9 but the mpeg2 file is flaged 4:3. dif4u goes by the ifo which is right 99.9% of the time.
you can also reencode it to 4:3

Here's what my SceneAid.scp says:
Item=Video
{

Resolution=NTSC
Drop Type=Drop frame
Data Start Time=00:00:00:00

Encode Type=MPEG 2

It already has 16:9 as the AR.

search for dummy_4_3 in the SceneAid script and replace with dummy_16_9
This is a bug some other people have mentioned that will hopefully be fixed in the next version

tried that but still no luck, I searched thru the whole script and changed those dummy files to 16:9 but it still didn't work.

I don't know if this means anything but I was able to encode that problematic VTS using BatchCCEWS...I cut out all the other ones that were encoded before and just left that one in the CCE_data file...it encoded fine but when I tried to create the script again and then open it up in Scenarist and create the dvd, i still get the same 4:3 aspect ratio problem.

i was able to recreate the error doing a vobid project. i fixed it by doing what d3s7 said (well basically.. since i know my way around scenarist i just switched from the 4_3 dummy to the 16_9 dummy in scenarist itself instead of editing the script.) or you can clear the offending dummy(it wont say dummy) in the scenario editor and replace it with the 16_9dummy track.
editing the script and reimporting as d3s7 said should have worked too
that error only seems to come up if a title has a different aspect ratio than the rest of the vts set (as opposed to a cell within a title) anywho.. you may want to wait until the next version of sceneaid comesout before continuing

it seems that the only "dummy" was me :D . Sure enough I saw the dummy 4:3 file in scenario editor and changed that with the 16:9 dummy file and it worked! Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for your help guys!

P.S. SAVE ANGEL ON THE WB!!! :D (sorry had to do it)

i am trying to make a backup of american wedding unrated dvd. this dvd contains rated and unrated versions. vts5 ( main vts ) needs to be ripped via vobid. so i used DIF4U -> BatchCCEWS -> ScenAid RC3. Everything looks good but when compiling i get a vob duration error. here is the log from scenarist.
