I'm using the lastest virtualdubmod to reencode. When I try to load certain mastrovka files I get the error
"Vitualdubmod error
only handle [S-TEXT] subs for the moment"
The files have in common several sets of subs, except one.
I tried to use mkv decompressor to remove it from the container, but that wouldn't load either.
Is there any way to demux the files into seperate components (subs, avi, audio)?
Is there anyway to force virtualdubmod to load it?
Can somone tell me exactly what that error means, and maybe how to resolve this problem?
I have searced very extensively but have found zero documentation on this issue.
Any help would be ridiculously appreciated.
Thanks!

Your MKV likely contains vobsub subtitles, and this cant be demuxed nor edited by VirtualdubMod right now.

To demux the video and audio into an AVI file ( if the streams are AVI compliant ), you have the following two options :

1. Use mkvmextract from Mkvtoolnix (http://mkvtoolnix.matroska.org). Its a CLI program

2. Use mmg.exe from mkvtoolnix to load your movie, untick the subtitles stream thats not supported in VdubMod, and mux your MKV into a new MKV without the subs. Try to load this in VdubMod then.

BTW, if you tell us what you are trying to do, maybe there is another way ? You try to make a VCD/SVCD/DVD from the movie ? You wonna keep the subs or not ?

ChristianHJW,
Thanks for the reply.
I may want to make an SVCD, or I may want to filter and improve an image. I may want to clean up a hissy, nasty audio track.
I like to have max flexibiltiy.
In half the cases (if it's a foriegn languge film), I need the subs.
I am going to try your second solution first, remuxing without the subs, than I'll go into the mkv extract and try to pull out the seperate parts.
Putting back in the vobsubs is new to me. I only recently began having these issues. I want to see if you can convert the format of subs. Damned learning curves.
The mkvextract dosbox is a drag for me, even though I've used dos for years, It stll can confuse me (my typing sux) thank god fo gui's.
Guis for all the mkv tools would be great, but a man can dream.
Thanks again for your reply. any addition help would be great.
