View Full Version : MPEG2Schnitt can't set the OUT mark

Hi, i am using MPEG2Schnitt to cut the mpv file made out of PVAStrumento.
i can't set the out mark after a while that i move towards the end of the video clip.
How can that be?
I move to P frames but the "out button" is not enabled after some certain timestamp.
Can anyone help?

Doom9: Why should i set ProgDVB to capture in PVA format instead of Mpeg2 since PVAStrumento handles mpg files? Is is the same thing?

Doom9 in your guide you say:
"In case the resolution is smaller (if PAL is your video system the vertical resolution will always be 576), you might have to patch your video file prior to importing it to a DVD authoring tool but more about that later."

I have read your guide all the way, but i couldn't find anywhere you talked about patching it.
How do i do that?

Thanx

I think PVAStrumento does it. If not, you can use a separate tool like DVDPatcher or ReStream.

How do i do that?Oops.. that's the part I meant to add but never did. As MrDarcy mentioned, you can use those two programs. There's some visual instructions for DVDPatcher in the SVCD -> DVD-R guide which work just as well for DVB -> DVD-R.

Firstly, in PVAStrumento if you hit the "defaults" button and click the "MPEG PS" tab, then under "packet size" click the "(PC, DVD)" radio button this will make the DVB mpeg2 file a legal DVD mpeg.

Secondly, I'm having exactly the same trouble with MPEG2Cut, after a certain length of the mpv file, the "out" and "in" buttons grey out - not very useful.

Thirdly, from my understanding the PVA format contains error correction code in the stream to prevent audio de-sync. However, my Nova-t outputs in error corrected mpeg2 format, which also contains extra code to keep video and sound in sync, and PVAStrumento detects this code and attempts to keep things synchronised:) As long as the capture contains the extra error correction, it doesn't matter if it's PVA or mpeg.

As for cutting.. are there any regularities (timecodes, size) where this happens? So far I haven't dealt with files that go beyond 4 GB or 2 hours.

The mpeg was only ~1.9 GB, and was an export from PVAStrumento. There were "repaired" dropped frames though..

I'm currently using PVAStrumento/mpeg2cut to work on short music videos which it does very well:) but I will be wanting to do much longer movies soon..

me too, can we get in touch to the dev of mpeg2schnitt so we can help him fix this bug?

I've emailed Martin Dienert via his feeback form on his site. The email address given on the app doesn't seem to work.

Just a small hint: e-mailing Martin Dienert will probably be more successful if written in German.

Well, the problem (or at least a similar one) has been reported in the German MPEG2Schnitt forum, too. I believe it has not yet been resolved, but maybe something's wrong with the stream. Could you please try to demux your PVA source using Project X - just to verify that PVAstrumento is not the problem.

There are newer interim versions of MPEG2Schnitt available, but they are in German: http://www.computerdns.de/mpeg2/Mpeg2Schnitt06g-2.zip

You may want to try this one; for the translation refer to the older English version. Martin Dienert told me he was going to add a language module; so I hope we'll soon have current versions of MPEG2Schnitt in multiple languages.

Do you see an "Attach File" box at the bottom when posting? If not, you can send me the file via e-mail.

There seem to be some problems with the interim code. I guess we'll have to wait - the author is working on it.

In the new version of MPEG2Schnitt, grayscale is turned on in the ini file, i.e. "Video_Grau_darstellen=1", set the value to 0 and you'll get the colour back.

Just don't have the time currently, sorry. Takes about an afternoon; maybe next week - but I won't promise anything. (Still hoping Martin Dienert gets his language module running soon).

version 6-4 is out, along with the source code, just have a look in:

http://www.computerdns.de/mpeg2

So, if any other coders out there can translate German, it'd be *really* appreciated by a lot of people if you could compile a build.

I have found out that i was wrong, the issue is not gone.
If i move the .mpa to another folder, it wont be loaded in mpeg2schitt when i open the .mpv, and that way the OUT marker works properly.
But if the .mpa is there, then the OUT marker won't work after a certain frame number...
Any ideas????

Some new information from my side:
Today I had a DVB capture, which I processed by ProjectX, and I couldn't set neither IN nor OUT marks in MPEG2Schnitt after ca. 9 minutes of film. The reason was, that there was no more audio after that time; ProjectX had cut it off (probably because the audio stream changed).

Then i used PVAstrumento 2.1 RC6 to demux, leaving the default audio settings "Split output on audio format change" and "Split output when no. of tracks changes" enabled. I got three video / audio files - the middle part was the film I wanted to cut, and that one had a mono MP2 stream. Because there was some rubbish left at the end, I opened it in MPEG2Schnitt to cut it off, and everything worked fine.

So I recommend to verify your audio if there are any problems with disabled IN/OUT buttons in MPEG2Schnitt. I strongly believe it's not MPEG2Schnitt's fault.
