View Full Version : Subtitle problem in DVDmaestro

Hi all.

I'm trying to creat a DVD, using MPEG-1 video (vcd standard) and mutliple AC3 audio tracks (a convenient way to fit a *lot* of material on a DVD that doesn't have awesome video quality to begin with, for instance, the Anime series Trigun).

I use DVD2SVCD to make the VCD's, and this works fine. I use DVDMaestro to add the video stream and the audio streams -- but I've been having a devil of a time to add subtitles as well!

I rip the DVD with DVD2SVCD. Then, from these files, I rip subtitles to BMP's according to Doom9's method (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdsubs.htm). But when I try to load the .son file into Maestro it says that the timecode of the subtitle file doesn't match...

Subrip says the timecode is 30 fps, 'drop' and DVDMaestro lists the timecode as 29.97, 'drop'...

Anybody got any ideas?

The exact error message I get is "No corresponding subtitles found! The video asset timecode may not correspond to the timecode specified for the subtitles in the import file."

I can't comment on the NTSC stuff (I'm a PAL user), however that error message is consistent with having a non-zero timecode on the video file (CCE default is 01:00:00:00).

Try setting the timecode to zero in Maestro and then import the subs. It's located to the left of the video stream on the timeline.

I don't exactly understand what you mean, I'm afraid, but before I beg for more instructions:

I've already tried starting a new, empty DVD Maestro project with one empty movie and, before even adding any video or audio streams, importing the subtitle stream. I get the same error.

If this is to be expected, then could you explain in a little more detail how I should approach this? Are you talking about SMPTE offset, or something like that? I'm fairly new to DVDMaestro, so I'm not exactly up to speed...

Appreciate your help.

Yes...

See where is says "Wall clock" on the timeline...well in the 2 boxes below it are timecodes. Double click on the second box and change it to 00:00:00:00 if it isn't already. Do this after importing video and before importing subtitles.

That's about all I can help, because if that doesn't fix your problem, and the timecodes in the. son file are correct (just look at them in notepad), then it's probably an NTSC issue of some sort.

I htink that it is indeed an NTSC issue, as I've just tried the exact same procedure with my region-2 PAL DVD's of '24' and that works without a hitch.

I'll try the roundabout way of OCR'ing to SSA, and then using MaestroSBT to convert the SSA back to .SON. Around the world for a shortcut, I know, but it might work.

Thanks for your help!
