I have a pioneer ao7 and a sony dru-530a since 2 weeks,i bought 8x certified media form traxdata(mediacode is ritek r03)the pioneer will not burn them at 8x and the sony burns them a 8x but when i play them in my standalone they hang after 20 minutes or so. I had the same with my plextor burned 4x discs at 8x. i thought it was because i burned the 4x at 8x. So no 8x burning for me. The other problem i have with the sony is when i burn -r form princo( i know crappy discs) and ritekg04 form traxdata and arita but wehn i play them in my standalone they give artifacts, with the ao7 no probs with 4x media, the plextor has the same probs. Anybody can tell me how this is possible? i tired all the firmwares but the discs burned fine on my sony dru-500ul wich i sold,i think 8x burners aren't that good yet. I als otried nero 6 and 5,recordnow max and all but all probles discs.

Maybe your standalone simply isn't willing to read recordable media. I burn all my DVDs at 8x (Verbatim, Ritek) and it is always readable on number of standalones.
Why don't you try your DVDs on some other player?

The discs that were burned at 4x work perfect on my pioneer dvd-717 standalone, the dics i burned with the sony give artifacts at 4x burned -r,plus r works pefect and teh 8x media works fine untill teh burning begins at 8x then my standalone hangs? What burner do u have? And does anybody know if the verbatim 8x work on the pioneer at 8x burning? The riteks won't go at 8x. The 4x discs i burned with the sony work on some players without artifacts.

I use Plextor PX-708 and I haven't had a single coaster or unreadable disc since I started using Verbatim 4x medias written at 8x. As for Sony media- my Plextor wouldn't even recognize it so I am very unhappy with their brand. I also have good experiences with Ritek 4x burnt at 8x. Same thing goes for Traxdata although Plextor refuses to set burning speed over it's declared 4x.
