View Full Version : Merge of RealAnime and Yatoshi Satsuki

Sirber

Hi

RealAnime and Yatoshi Satsuki GUI are merging into 1 unique GUI. The question is, which "skin" you would like to have "by default"?

1) RealAnime "tabbed UI"
http://www.webernic.com/sites/sirber/190_1.PNG

2) Yatoshi Satsuki "all-in-one window UI"
http://oldanimes.org/gui2.jpg

Note: This is not a feature comparison

About language, both UI will work in French and English

All is said ^^
Just chose and we will program

Since you took time to vote, you're not that lazy so you could have voted RealAnime :p

Shinobu

so please vote ^^

Do you think the merge is evil or good?

is there something wrong about my UI?

I like Yatoshi's !!!

But RealAnime sounds better... :D

Anyhow I like the all-in-one idear... ;)

But tab-style is also nice !!!

Combination maybe ???

No, wait...

I also vote for Yatoshi Satsuki's !!!

Thats it... :p

nah... I hate "all-in-one window" style, too much stuff, and Satsiky hates tabs. That's why we keep both :D. This vote is only to choose which "skin" will be loaded by default (both are avalible all the time and can be changed on the fly from a menu.

What about a "which style would you prefer" question during the install process?

IMHO, YS just looks too complicated!

The window looks a bit cramped, sirber's tabbed interface is way better, I think.

All the great utils (GordianKnot, etc...) use tabbed interface, so I think RealAnime2 should too. :sly:

Just my two cents.

I really like the tabbed interface too :D

One more vote your way Sirber!
I agree with you, tabs are better... hence Mozilla > IE

But boozed had the greatest idea yet. Choose it when you install. Would you like that as an option on the poll?

karl_lillevold

I like both, and as long as there is an easy way to switch between tabbed or non-tabbed, in the installer or otherwise, I will be happy. On a side-note, I love tabs in Mozilla and Opera, but in an encoding GUI, it is kind of nice to see all the settings at once.

EDIT: I should add that my most used GUI is called "Command Prompt". It has a nice 'arrow up' feature to recall the last command. I do however like to have both my Avisynth scripts and audience files auto-generated, keep an old copy of these around, and then edit a version, and run:

producer -i in.avs -lc e,d -ad testNEWfeature.rpad

However, it is not always easy... Sometimes I want anamorphic, sometimes a specific filesize, other times a bitrate, sometimes multi-channel audio, other times trans-coded to surround, sometimes no audio and later mux with source audio. GUIs are a great help!

They both suck. :D
Invent something new.

Edit: Voted for RealAnime.

I like having categories. So for me tabbed is better. I vote for realanime.

Sirber
10th February 2004, 01:24
Need 3 more votes!!! :D

RealAnime 2.00 (my part) is almost completed. Once it works #1, I will merge Satsuki part. Satsuki GUI will be a "skin" which will manipulate RealAnime "hidden" GUI, since all the existing code uses RealAnime GUI. RealAnime GUI will also update Satsuki GUI if Satsuki GUI is hidden. This can cause infinite loop if we are not carefull :D. The main goal of this fusion is to concentrate our efforts to make the "ultimate anime encoding tool" into one GUI. Also, note that RealAnime will get *all* Satsuki GUI functions, and vice versa (if possible).

Stay tuned for more boring news!

[edit]

oh!!! 12 vs 14! 2 more votes!!!!! :D

all in one is good but sometimes i'm lost in the ihm...so tabs!!

I actually like both!

Why don't you have a 'startup' welcome screen that can direct you to each GUI.

That said, Sirbers layout offers greater flexibility for future upgrades!

Hey Sirber. Now that RealMedia can create AAC audio streams. Can you add an MP4 output tab to your GUI ;)

He, He

Sirber

Matroska support is through a producer plugin, not an external binary. If someone write a MP4 output plugin I don't mind :)

mine is the 20th vote for RealAnime, tabbed interface is cleaner than the all-in-one solution (even though it needs an additive ocx control in vb).

@Shinobu : do you are involved also in SurrealUI developement? i'm searching a voulenterous programmer for an anime-related project, please pm me if you're interested.

@siber: which ocx controls are actually needed by RealAnime?

Sirber
10th February 2004, 19:24
IIRC, I use DirectX7, CommonDialog and MS Controls #1 SP4. They are all included with RealAnime, so no need to seek them elsewhere.

about Surreal UI, Shinobu is already in the team, but as always, time is missing :( What is your project about?

Maybe you can make your installer lighter using commondialogs api calling instead of the ocx control, i've done the same for my application and it works very well.
You can find some ready to use classes over the net, otherwise i can send them directly to your email, please let me know.

OT :

It is a subtitling application expecially designed for anime, i've seen you and shinobu are good otakus so maybe you are interested to develope a project like this, in addiction the actual application is coded in vb so you have already experiences to spend.

Shinobu

no worries for my project, it'll grown in some way; keep up with the marvellous work you're doing for producer GUIs no matter which will be the winning interface they're both good because aimed to different user types ;)

Sirber
11th February 2004, 03:39
Bah... this vote is only to know which interface to use by default, both will be avalible at any time, even while encoding. COuld you give us (me) more infos about the project? "subtitling app" is kinda too short :D

b00zed
11th February 2004, 07:58
I just had another thought:

How about just having the GUI it runs with controlled by a command line argument? The installer could for example (if possible) place two shortcuts, each with their respective argument, in the start menu folder, and the user just runs the one they want from there. This way you wouldn't have to commit to a choice during the installation process, and you wouldn't have to go fiddling with settings inside the program itself if you wanted to change the GUI, just run the other shortcut...

Sirber
11th February 2004, 13:56
There will be no choice in installation, I'm too lazy. About shortcut, it will be bad since I want the user to be able to change UI while running it. TO change it will super easy, I added a menu "Mode" so changing is 1 click (or 2).

How RealAnime works now:

RealAnime --> avisynth/producer wrapper --> producer

How "merged app" will work:

Satsuki --> RealAnime --> avisynth/producer wrapper --> producer
<--

Shinobu
11th February 2004, 21:29
T_T i need 6 votes to egal realanime (that'll not be a big mess cause the 2 gui'll exist.... )

for creating mp4 there's a thread bout that

you create your ra10 then with mkvtools you mux in mkv then demux in...aac or redirect to mp4 wrapper

i have the cmdline somewhere...

i think i will add it as a possibility in my matroska panel :-))

Sirber

go ahead :)

I'm focusing on my new "Job manager" :D

damrod
12th February 2004, 18:28
job manager??

to save a job list or to save, for each file, a jobfile?? (like in rmfactory?)

btw i update and re-upload the files of realbatch on my website

some mods/debug :-)

I want to try your realbatch, but never succeed...
miss VB6FR.DLL first, after d/l it and figure out need to put in system32, then popup a box about tabctl32.ocx, not in English, don't understand... maybe it's better to make a install which includes all needed file?

Sirber
12th February 2004, 19:04
That's why I included all the DLLs :D

damrod

finally find the needed files from Siber realanime folder... ^O^
just play a short while, some problems/suggestion:
1. can it remmeber last setting when quit, really don't want to go to muxer tab first everytime open and need to reload setting... T__T
2. "do you really want to quit realbatch?" confirmation box when quit is too annoying... how about an option to choose popup or not?

btw, just some general question: Under what circumstance should I tick avisynth and force directshow? Because I don't need to think about this using Yatoshi Satsuki'S Real producer GUI before... don't quite understand...

also, can realanime or realbatch do ape->ra and how? I try tick all avisynth and force directshow but seems still fail...

damrod
12th February 2004, 19:43
it show the mkv panel first?? strange i will check my code

i will disable the confirm to quit dialog ;-))

for ape-ra i don't know... do you have the dshow filte for ape??

you need it if you want to use directshow in avs...

for the settings i work on it to load it at the beginning...or to add the possibility to load a rpad file...

h9903209
12th February 2004, 20:07
thx, remember last setting when quit would be the best. ^^

btw, could you explain a bit about avisynth and force directshow? when should I use them? I have ape directshow so I should check force directshow?

damrod
12th February 2004, 20:22
normally we use dshow for movies in ogm/wmv/asf/rmvb...

i don't know if we can use it for audio-only file...we must specify framerate...and audio has no framerate...*

what you can do is make an avs file in notepad :

directshowsource("toto.ape",25)

and test if it works in mùediaplayer...normally it will...the framerate is for synchro audio/video

i'm not sure we can handle it in realanime/realbatch...

loading avs file will be more sure

damrod
12th February 2004, 20:47
@sirber : ok for me..do as your want

btw your merging for realanime2 will still be in vb6?? or vb7? delphi?

i think i will change to delphi8 but the problem is that's .net!!

you need the .net framework (like with jre and java soft)

Sirber
12th February 2004, 20:48
Delphi 8 uses .NET?

I will stick with VB6. I hate .NET...

damrod
12th February 2004, 20:53
no but i have delhpi8 for .net

i will install it and see if i must use .net or make classic delphi soft

if not i will check my cds and install delhpi6 or 7 :-))

Sirber
12th February 2004, 21:08
Delphi 8 is pure .NET and pure Delphi. You can start developing today with Delphi language RAD development for the Microsoft .NET Framework, including VCL Forms, Windows® Forms, ASP.NET, Web Forms, Web Services, ADO.NET, and more. Developers can immediately use their Delphi language and framework skills and most of their existing investments in Delphi application source code to start developing Windows applications for .NET today.Wierd...

unmei
13th February 2004, 06:24
to me this sounds like you could use .net framework in delphi 8 like you can use clx/qt and that stuff in delphi 7.

i hope they did not completely replace or base VLC on .net.

damrod
13th February 2004, 14:56
for installing delphi8 installer says that i need .net framework 1.1
which is on the cds

i will check that to try pure delphi soft (.net..beurk!!! if i need framework... i will make a java soft which is true multiplateform!!)

don't know anything about language, but if that two limits is caused by the need of swaping with 2 interface, then how about just drop this swapping function, releasing two versions of respective interface...?

too much troubles. updating 1 soft is easier than 2.

damrod
15th February 2004, 18:30
if you want to have 2 gui using the same functionnality...

you must completely separate the gui of the api ie :

write classes to store the functions and procedures

the gui is a form with button...and "change function" which calls functions/procedures of your classes

...
in en : that's all ;-)

Sirber

1. as I mention I don't know about langugage, I just thought that since the only difference is the interface mapping, I misunderstand it would be something like search and replace all mapping then ok... ^^

2. MPC can set ogm default langugage audio and subtitle, can your GUI do the same so that when convert ogm to real, it can auto choose the audio and subtitle we want so no need demux first?

damrod
16th February 2004, 12:10
good idea i will check that also ;-))

Dunno. OGM and MKV are a pain in the ass to recompress.

damrod
16th February 2004, 13:18
usually i convert ogm to mkv... better handlement in realanime/realbatch
but i choose audio track (only one) and demux subtitles...

h9903209
16th February 2004, 16:03
my way is to use mkvmerge to choose the audio and subtitle when convert to mkv, then compress the resulting mkv, no need demux subttile.

if set default audio and subtitle doesn't work, how about integrate a batch mkvmerge GUI, and thus automate the whole process:

ogm/mkv -> use mkvmerge to choose one audio and subtitle and convert to mkv -> rmvb

^_^

damrod
16th February 2004, 16:14
ok ok i will add that
i add a matroska muxer so i have the mkvtools
i will add that in case of ogm and mkv files...
when i have time...

h9903209
16th February 2004, 17:11
great!! thx!! ^O^

btw, just wondering why you need mkv muxer in realbatch? already has mkv output... can't figure out its use...

damrod
16th February 2004, 17:19
because sometimes i demux ogm ;-))
so if i want to mux srt and rmvb....
and encoding 2 times audio...

also i convert rmvb to mkv : all episodes in one format :-))
