View Full Version : vdub setup; poor framerate?

Folks,

I know the frame rate you can get is heavily dependent on your
system, and mine is an older system. I have a Win98SE 700MHz P3
machine with an All In Wonder VE PCI card. When I record using
the included ATI tools, I can capture 640x480 30fps mpeg with no
missed frames and playback fine.

I have trouble getting good results using virtualdub 1.5.10. I
am using the Pegasus PICVideo compressor at several quality
levels, with the "Hide on Capture" menu checked. I can capture
fine at *15* fps with no missed frames. But the playback is
not very useful because of the low frame rate.

When I set the frame rate to 30, I can use the "test capture"
mode and get only a few missed frames. Then when I switch to
actual capture mode, I immediately get a crash dialog from
virtualdub: "Access Violation in capture routine. VirtualDub has
intercepted a crash condition in one of its routines..."

When I set the frame rate to 24, I can capture to disk but
there are dozens of dropped frames.

Are there some other settings I should use to get virtualdub
performance to match the ATI tools performance on my system?

Thanks in advance,
