Hey!

I have a NTSC dvd, and I want to add nordic subtitle on it. Can someone tell me an easy way to do this? A guide or something would be great!

Hey!

I searched on "add subtitle guide" and came up with this. Please take note of Forum rule #1.

Sorry it didn't work for you. I don't do new subtitles but was just pointing out guides or threads I found during the browsing. Here's another guide I found for adding subtitles. Don't know if it's good but you'll let us know. ;)

This guide is pretty much the same! My problem is when I try to MUX my .ac3 , m2v and .sub file, I get an error message in IFOedit. "Too many frame drops!"

Have you tried ReJig's DVD Author feature instead of IfoEdit?

Hello. Don't you think you are ... erm ... too cool? It amazes me, members like Carpo, directive, rude, thankless, what the hell is that, "this guide sucks...wasn't worth the try"! I think the guys who wrote those guides would have thought it wasn't worth the time spent... I'm fascinated  to see how cool you stay, you who wrote so many guides. Thanks, there are members like you :D .

Rats!

I was searching guides to help me out placing extra subtitles in a DVD and those two helped a lot and the job's done! Thanks!

Actually i'm having a prob with the playback. The video stream is always kinda breaking (stops by a second for example or jumps to antoher frame) and then sometimes gets out of synch with audio... Do you know what might be the problem? I think it's when i mux... I tried to playback the demuxed .m2v and it seems ok without the audio... I tried 2 times already the whole process  Please help.

I bought "I Know What You Did Last Summer" but it comes without subs and i want to add them. It's a DVD-5 so all you got to do is demux and mux it again right? Any other way? The subs are perfect in the dvd... The problem is the video (or audio).

is your m2v fully dvd compliant, or svcd?

Moonchild
17th February 2004, 16:15
How do i know that? Here's what i did:

- Ripped to HD with DVD Decrypter (File mode) (Original DVD),
- Demuxed with VobEdit,
- Muxed with IfoEdit.

pepipocpoc
17th February 2004, 16:22
well, if you ripped an original DVD, it is fully compliant. What with do you play back your reauthored DVD?

Moonchild
17th February 2004, 16:49
I played both with Power DVD and then in the DVD Player. It's not related with playback, but with the mux.

well, I'm sorry I can't help much. The only movie that gave me that kind of problem was a Woody Allen (Harry dans tous ses états, can't remember the original title). Anyway, let me know if you find a solution. Who knows...

Ain't there a program like IfoEdit that let me mux the files? Maybe that's an issue related to IfoEdit... I'm hearing the demuxed .ac3 file and it's clean. The video stream is clean as well...

Try rejig author if you are doing NTSC.

@carpo , those guides realy helped me out.
Give those guides a try and post your problem when/where you are stuck.

I just have been tested that ReJig, it crashes to near end of Author. It´s making "muxing subtitles" or something and then it crashes. Any help ?

I use WinXP SP1

try mux m2v with ac3 only.
check your new vobs.
If your new vobs are ok
then there is a problem with your subs.
Try demux yor subs with vobsub and sub2sup.
Good luck

I have to test that. I´m adding foreign subs to R1 movie and make subs with SRT2SUP. Ifoedit authors ok, but there is problems with my standalone.

I will try to post my problem(s) in this string instead of starting a new one, so here goes:

I have successfully added subs to several dvdrs by now, allthough main movie only. Now I would really like to be able to keep menus, extras etc. Is it at all possible???

I have tried with following tools (so far only on ntsc movies):
Srt2Sup
Vobedit (for demuxing)
Ifoedit (multiplexing)
ReJig (multiplexing)

My main movie is called eg. VTS_05_0.VOB which is the file demux (is this right?)
After I have multiplexed the files with my own .sup-file I end up with a number of VTS_01.*.VOB files. The main movie was called eg. VTS_05.*.VOB, so I rename my new files as the originals and replace them with the originals (only VOBS - not IFO and BUP files).

Everything seems to be ok in Power DVD, but when I burn with Nero I get a reallocation warning. I have tried to ignore and burn anyway and sometimes I'm able to play in my standalone player BUT only until chapter change (I think) where the picture freezes.

Am I right when I replace my subfile with eg spanish subfile. My subfile is not same size as original file? I think that maybe this is where my problem is, but what can I do about it?

I have tried to author with ReJig, but I can't get it to work. The movie simply isn't there???

It's known that IfoEdit dosn't work well muxin NTSC video strem.

There should be a sticky or something

@Moonchild,

You should use another authoring utility, like Maestro or Scenarist

if you want to keep the original menus, this is what i did:
i ripped the whole movie to my hd, i kept it in a dir called "temp".
then, i demuxed with vobedit the main movie/audio/existing subs to a folder called "vobedited". i put the cell times there, and the new subtitles i added. i remuxed the movie and put it in another folder.
when remuxed, i got the vobs, an ifo and a bup.
i took just the vobs and put them on the original "temp" dir, overwritting the existing ones, and voilá!
full movie with original menus and new subtitles :)
only problem so far, is the one being discussed here: skips when playing on standalone player, and subs only showing the first 3-4 times in the movie or when appearing sometimes when playing in slow motion... (even if it plays fine on my computer).
ifoedit bug?

You're missing some very important parts (like that "mock strip").
I've been "playing" with it for last week and finally got it work (many thanks to that guide, too). I've added new subtitle stream from SSA, edited menu to add another button, translated all menus, edited intro video (cut it a little and allow user to enter menu immediately) etc.

You meant that you replaced your original VTS_05_*.VOB files with new files?

You also need to strip/keep everything with IfoEdit after this last step. Open VTS_05_0.IFO, click on VOB Extras, select Strip Streams, Correct original IFO's and Auto Copy Menu files to destination, check ALL streams and Correct IFO Tables, save to another directory. After VOB files are processed drag all your newly created files back to the original directory or alternatively drag all missing files from the original to new directory, open any IFO and click on GET VTS Sectors.

1.- i copied the movie to my hd using dvd decrypter
2.- since it was dvd-5, no need to re-encode
3.- converted the subs with srt2sup, adjusted colors with supremap
4.- used vobedit to demux
5.- got cell times with ifoedit
6.- used rejig to remux video audio cell times and new subs, selecting NTSC, copied only the vobs to where i kept the original files from dvd decrypter
7.- did this:
"You also need to strip/keep everything with IfoEdit after this last step. Open VTS_05_0.IFO, click on VOB Extras, select Strip Streams, Correct original IFO's and Auto Copy Menu files to destination, check ALL streams and Correct IFO Tables, save to another directory. 8.- burned to a dvd.... and i get stuck in the first chapter of the main movie. all the other chapters play ok...
any ideas on what i could be doing wrong?

Perhaps NTSC guys could help you more. I'm just asking questions:

1. What do you mean by stuck? Does the player hang and you need to restart it or it just stops/pauses the playback? Does navigation work after it is stuck or the player stops responding?

2. Where exactly it hangs? At the beginning of cell, middle, end?

3. Do your new subtitles work?

4. Have you (by accident) deleted any pgc/vob/cell?

Suggestion for subtitles: give DVDSupTools a try. You can select color map with it so there is no need for supremap.

it starts ok, the studio logo, fbi stuff, i get to the main menu...then i select start movie, and after 1 second it freezes. first the subtitles, then the video, then the audio. if i skip to the next chapter, it plays ok, subs display ok. if i rewind from the 2nd chapter, and get to the begining of the 1st chapter, it plays ok too, with subs working.
i didnt deleted any ifo-bup-vob, just replaced the vobs from the main movie with the remuxed ones

i had the same problem with adding a new srt2sup.
No problems on pc but on homeplayer
subs came only after ff or next.
and the last chapters has playback problems.
skipping and freeze problems.

Tested on my friends player and no problems at all.
I'm now saving my money for a better player.

i've done this all over and over again, and im still getting "freeze" while playing the first few seconds of chapter 1 (then it skips all of a sudden to chapter 2), but being able to rewind from chapter 2 and it plays ok...with all menus and susb working fine.
when i demuxed, and then remuxed, the movie had one subtitle file, which i REPLACED with the one on my language... could it be that the problem? because if i kept the original one, and added mine on the remuxed, it goes ok but i cant choose my newly added subs. i tried to increase the "number of sub-picture streams in VTSM" with ifoedit under VTSI_MAT, but still no work :/

any further ideas?

In that case, assuming you add subpicture 2, you also need to set:

1. in "VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_X/Sub-picture stream 2 status" enter negative decimal representation of hex number 8x0x0x0x where x is 2nd byte of subpicture stream ID, for example for subp ID 0x21 -> 81010101 -> enter -2164326657

2. double-click on "VTSI_MAT/Video Attributes of VTSTT_VOBS/Sub-p_02" and choose Language Type (set to "present") and Language (set language)

If you can see your 2nd subtitle track among titleset attributes in root-level view of IFO file then your player should probably see it too.

ok, i tested my dvd that got stucked on chapter 1 on another desktop player and it played fine. the solution would be "get a new player"..but, why? shouldnt it work fine? because it's like a "software" error. there must be something on the dvd author process that does something not fully compatible....

p.d.: in a related subject, is there any software, GUI based, that allows you to edit the dvd menus-subs? something more graphic, that lets you load your vobs-ifos and shows you the structure of the dvd easily...

Depending on what you wanna do there's MenuEdit and DVDReMake... Same author on both...
