Fairuse DVD drive recognition problems

Not sure what the most appropriate forum is so I'm posting here...

I just downloaded the latest version of Fairuse to try but when it gets to the stage of selecting my DVD drive, things are a bit messed up. I have a CD-RW and a DVD-ROM drive on the primary IDE controller and a second CD-RW drive and a harddrive on the secondary controller. (Other harddrives are on a SATA controller). My motherboard is a nForce2 (ASUS A7N8X Deluxe) with the latest official drivers from nVidia (including the nVidia IDE driver).

The drive letters are:
LITE-ON LTR-48246S (R:)
LITE-ON LTR-24102B (S:)
PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-105 (V:)

Drive choices in Fairuse are:
LITE-ON LTR-24102B [1:1:0]
R: LITE-ON LTR-48246S [1:0:0]
V: LITE-ON LTR-24102B [1:1:0]

If I choose V: I get the error:
Can't read DVD data from V:LITE-ON LTR-24102B
>>> Incorrect block size (not 2048).

I tried re-installing Fairuse, this time checking the install ASPI-layer option but the result was the same. I also tried using ForceASPI 1.8 but again the same result. The OS (Windows XP Pro) and other applications have no problem seeing the DVD-ROM drive and I can rip DVD's using other applications.

Anyone know what might be wrong here?

You might try to edit fairuse.ini and change ForceAspiIO=0 to ForceAspiIO=1, maybe this will help.

When I do this I get 3 drive options, identified by interface:drive numbers rather than drive letters or names. However, when I select the DVD drive I keep getting:

Can't read DVD data from .
>>>No disk is in the drive, or the drive is still spinning up.

On the other hand, AutoGK seems to be working fine. I'm encoding my first movie so I'll have to wait a few more hours to see what the quality is like.

Is Fairuse any better or worst than AutoGK?

AutoGK and FU don't use the same methods to read data from a DVD, so one might work where the other fails. Anyway, it seems to me that a DVD should always have 2048 bytes blocks, am I wrong ?

This is likely to be considered as a violation of forum rule 12, anyway if AutoGK works fine for you, then use AutoGK. You are the one who should decide what software better fits your needs.

AFAIK autogk makes an explicit poin of NOT ripping the DVD.. so ricnews must have used xxx ripper to get the vobs.. or he/she* is using unencypted source files.

it would be nice to add the possibility to choose the DVD-drive. I can't get FU to work if files are mounted and no DVD is present in the "real" drive.
