I am very pleased with the world of digital tecnology. and the more i surf the web the more i learn. i just got through sampling about 5
demos programs hoping that i could find something that could best suit my needs. yet i always run into the drudgery of having to first analyze the program only to realize that it's either way to sophisticated for me to learn in a hurry, or once i've tried it, it doesn't do exactly what i want.

i just sampled

adobe premier pro
adobe after effects
edit studio
vegas 4.0
screenblast studios
and then some...

it will probably be another week before i know what i'm working with

but i'd appreciate a head start.

what could i use to help create some type of text effects, like opening credits, or scrolling words. Do i need some type of graphics program that can allow me to draw my own title page? or will any of these do the trick.

the idea would be to at least have my contact information displayed at the begining or end of any type of movie that i produce

Avisynth should do what you desire. And actually macromedia flash is awesome for that sort of thing. You can even export to AVI.

Using Macromedia Flash is the best way to go. If you don't know Flash, then use a tool called "SwiSh Max", it has built in templates to generate Flash files of different kinds. And easy to learn. :). As NeoNeko described this tool also has option, exporting into avi.

If newbie oriented movie post production is what you're looking for, Microsoft Movie Maker may do the trick. And it's free.
