View Full Version : I-frame boost in default XviD RC1 settings?

Hi.
I was using xvid that comes with gknot (XviD Koepi 24062003-1) and there is no i-frame boost (set to 0) in default sett. I switched to XviD RC1 and here we have i-frame boost set to 10.
Is this really neccesary 'cause according to JXviDStatsViewer frame size distribution i-frames already got lots of bits (distribution is wider than in earlier xvid realase and more % of i-frames are at the high-end of the + from average frame size).
So if anyone can explain this to me ...
Thanks.

Due to the fast first pass we're now doing it was necessary to compensate for it's side-effects. IFrames got quantized too high. Still this isn't the best solution, but we'll work something more graceful out I think.

For now it makes sense to use that iframe boost if you do fast firstpass and use VHQ>0, qpel, trellis,... (always a and|or between those options).

Regards
Koepi

OK...
I use qpel and vhq=1 so I will try it.
Thanks.
