couple of random questions...

1) I've noticed something I was curious about. When I use Gordian Knot to do the entire process of a DVD backup...I can continue to use my computer at a pretty good pace while it's doing the encoding process. There's a slight lag...but nothing that's bothersom. However, if I'm encoding an AVI that I captured myself this doesn't work. My system lags horribly while encoding my personal captures.

No matter what my CPU registers 100% usage during the encoding. I'm running an AMD Barton 2800+ with 1GB PC3200 RAM.

Curious why my capture encodes lag my system so much and DVD encodes don't.

2) The DVD players that can play Divx...is there a special way you have to burn these discs, or do you just save the AVI onto a DVD USF/ISO as data and it will read the avi...???

I just burn my discs on the data mode and my Lite-on LVD-2002 reads them just fine, no special burning required.

I think extra cpu/ram is used for decoding your captured avi. You might be using a compressing codec and it need to be decompressed first before encoding. Another is the fetching of files, if it is in GBs then HDD has to spin up and down more frequently than done while encoding DVDs. So again making less responsive.

Yeah, he's got the right idea. If you're capturing with HuffYUV angelleye, for instance, it's well known that while it is a pretty fast compressor, it's MUCH slower as a decompressor.

So keep that in mind.

Yes just burn your avi as regular data cdr. LAg could be due to processing priority or huffyuv could be more processor intensive than mpeg2 vobs.
