A while ago before I got my DVD-RW my computer was working perfectly. I had no problems burning CDs and watching movies. Both my CD-RW and DVD-ROM seemed to be working very well. I had no problem watching SVCDs or VCDs and copying a full CD to my hard drive always took under 4 minutes (usually faster). I recently purchased a Polaroid PDRW-4D-IN (It's just a BTC DRW 1004IM that has been repacked and relabled). After I installed it I noticed that both my DVD-ROM and the new DVD-RW weren't reading CDs as fast as they should be. The CD-RW seems to be able to copy a full CD in about 4 minutes, which isn't bad but still not quite as fast as it used to be. The DVD-RW and the DVD-ROM take over 10 minutes to copy a CD. I cannot play VCDs or SVCDs anymore.. they work fine until around the end then they start getting very choppy. It gets choppy a bit later in the movie with the CD-RW but it still isn't watchable (w/ PowerDVD, WinDVD and Windows Media Player). I've been copying the SVCDs to the hard drive then watching them from the hard drive but I shouldn't have to do that. Today I did a speed test in Nero and all three of my drives say they get an average of 29x and a max of 39x (which is normal). But why doesn't it really read this fast!?!? When I first put a CD into the DVD-ROM it spins really fast (I can hear it) but then when I try to copy files from it, it slows way down. I've already tried reinstalling windows, changing the cables around, changing where the drives are on the bus, firmware updates, ASPI fixes, I have even tried them on my Ultra ATA/133 PCI adapter card. The ATA modes are all set up correctly in windows and in the bios. Nothing seems to fix my situation. However everything else seems to work fine. I can actually burn CDs faster than I can copy them to my hard drive. I know DVD-RW vendors put limits on the DVD copying speed to prevent ripping but this is with CD's and even on a DVD-ROM that used to work fine. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks
