View Full Version : "Bad" m2v not allowing build - VOB/m2v Fix Utility?

History: I have been working on a project where I am backing up 6 25-minute TV quality animation from their original dvd’s to a compilation-type DVD. I had success with the first 6 on Disc #1, but I ran into a snag on DVD #2. After I got the project ready to build and began building, it would give me an error during the build. (I am running Adobe Encore v1.0.1) I narrowed it down to one of the .m2v files. The build would run fine if I removed that m2v from its timeline. With that in mind, I tried demuxing the file with a couple of different demux utilities (I had used VOBedit with good success on the other 11), but I continued to get the same error. Then I opened the file in Premiere and it seemed to work/play fine there and I saved a copy from Premiere, but still the same error. After doing some further reading, it appears that there may be some issue with the gop or timeline. One post I read suggested decoding the file to avi and then re-encoding it to m2v and that would fix the timeline (or other) issues. I did this with DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc and the project did build successfully, however the audio is off sync. This seemed to confirm that it was an issue with that m2v, but since I am a novice at decoding & re-encoding, I am hoping there is a tool out there that will decode & re-encode for me and keep the m2v more or less the same at it was. Or, a utility that examines the structure of an m2v or vob and fixes issues such as this? I tried one called VOB Tools, but it didn't seem to do anything useful. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
RHH

Womble mpeg2vcr has a GOP Fixer utility built in. It may fix the problem. Maybe you can try to fix it with PVAStrumento which normally is used to fix problems with DVB mpeg2 caaptures but it may also fix other mpg files.
