View Full Version : Compiling DVD from different VOBs

Folks,

Here is what I am trying to do: I want to create a DVD, on which I will have normal mpeg2 video (encoded from DV footage), also some music tracks (AC3 encoded from CDs), plus some slideshows (created from still photos) - you know, sweet memories of last holiday :-)

I have done
- the video part, encoded, authored, burned, DVD plays fine
- the music only part, DVD plays fine
- the slideshow part (Ulead DVD PictureShow), DVD plays fine

Now, I try to put this together on one single DVD disc, with menu and navigation, keeping the work I have already done. I was using different tools for different parts, to avoid the complexity of the job if using only one tool (for example Scenarist).

TMPGEnc DVDAuthor I chose can import existing DVD video from IFO/VOB. Each parts above are put in a separate title set, so I would expect the new IFO files look pretty much like the original particular ones, while VOB's would remain practically the same (same content).

However, I need some help here:

While the movie and the music part were compiled fine, with nice menu, I am having trouble with importing the slideshows - for some reason, chapter points (and apparently, the cell numbers) do not transfer from the original IFO, as opposite to the other (normal movie and music) parts, where the original chapters appeared correctly in the new compilation.

The symptom is that when selecting the slideshow from the menu, it does not keep timing between the pictures thus the pace of the show set originally, nor can it be viewed with "next" and "previous" buttons, instead, it runs fast through, i.e., at 25 fps as pics were frames of a movie.

I think it has something to do with the nature of the still show inside the VOB, but it exceeds my understanding of the DVD structure - though I also suspect TMPG simply screws up something here, when interpreting the original IFO.

So can somebody recommend a method or tool to make this compilation happen or to fix the problem, maybe without the need of starting all over from scratch, and loosing the comfort of for example the quick slideshow tool of ULead, or the easy meny tool of TMPG.

Thanks in advance
d

Easy, just replace TMPenc output with your original slide show
VOB/IFO and "Get VTS Sectors" in IfoEdit.

Thanks for the hint - I did so and it was working fine.

I have done one more thing that might be interesting here: the TMPG menu was set to return to the main menu after playing a PGC. Since the original individual sets did not have this command and playback stopped at the end of the selected title set, I edited in IFOEdit the respective .IFO-s to have the necessary commands in their PostCommand table - and now all return to the main menu.

Thanks again and Regards
