View Full Version : The quality with a Philips 7108 chipset?

Hello folks!

I'm planning to capture a couple of old VHS tapes to DVD in short time. The tapes are from the mid 80s when my father made alot of own homevideos but the quality has gone pretty bad in some cases and the colours will probably need some adjustment.

At this moment I've got a Geforce 4 Ti4200 VIVO card with a Philips 7108 chipset which works ok to capture with. However, before I start I wonder if there will be a big difference in quality if I buy a more "professional" video capture card. I've never compared my Ti4200 card with another one so I don't really know how big the differences are.

What are the noticeably differences (colours, noise, sharpness?) between the capture cards? Perhaps it's possible to adjust some of them in the post-production?

I've never done any "serious" restoration before and wonder if you know any good documents/websites if I like to learn more about noise reduction, colour adjustments etc. I'm using Premiere for post-production and I guess there are alot of plugins availible for these activities?

Thanks
Fredrik
